Hurting anybody’s mind displeases the Father, and is, therefore,a sin.”This thought united the mutually-hating Hindu-Muslimcommunities. It also removed the inferiority and superiority complexesamong Hindus <strong>of</strong> different castes. They joined together in commoncongregations, which brought peace to the split-society. They werecalled <strong>Sikh</strong>s, the students or the seekers <strong>of</strong> Truth. Their faith came tobe known as <strong>Sikh</strong>ism, its actual name is Gurmat, the wisdom comingfrom the Guru, the guide.It is probably because <strong>of</strong> the universal message and the nondiscriminatorynature <strong>of</strong> the hymns in the sacred writings <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Sikh</strong>sthat made Toynbee conclude, “Mankind’s religious future may beobscure; yet one thing can be foreseen. The living higher religions aregoing to influence each other more than ever before. . . In this comingreligious debate, the <strong>Sikh</strong> religion and its scriptures, the Guru Granth,will have something special <strong>of</strong> value to say to the rest <strong>of</strong> the world.”PRISTINE GLORY OF THE SIKH PANTHWe, the members <strong>of</strong> the Guru Khalsa Panth, feel great by telling,“Our scriptures is great, they are for all people, they are non-communal.Our Gurus suffered for religious freedom and human rights <strong>of</strong> theweak. They fought against state terrorism, social evils and injusticebeing done to the helpless.” But, the question before us should be,“Will the Gurus who suffered for preaching truth be proud <strong>of</strong> us andour contribution to the world peace?” The glory <strong>of</strong> the Panth willresbine if we <strong>Sikh</strong>s, particularly the representatives <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Sikh</strong>organisations practise their faith sincerely:i. Let us value truthful living, and be convinced <strong>of</strong> its greatnessand its necessity for the world peace today. Let us not sell ourfaith for filthy lucrative available to us in India or anywhere else.Living according to our faith should always have a first priority,whatever sacrifice it may need. Once a <strong>Sikh</strong> preacher when asked,“What is the use <strong>of</strong> keeping uncut hair and tying a turban?”, replied,“If the <strong>Sikh</strong>s submit to ego, greed, lust, anger, etc., as do theother people, this question will continue to crop up in the minds<strong>of</strong> the youth.
