GURU GRANTH SAHIB – THE PERFECT, PERPETUAL GUIDE...41remain valid for the new millennium.Let me conclude this paper on a very positive note. I hold theview that the present-day race for accumulation of wealth, for illegaland immoral hankering for glory and political power and moraldegeneration will have ended after some years when man would find,in terms of the clarity for all the people, that one will never find peacein such pursuits. We all shall have woken up and would perhaps morewillingly obey the teachings. Bhai Gurdasji’s warning that mere talkwould take us nowhere would be taken more seriously. Let me quoteBhai Gurdas in full:Preetam ke des kaise batan se jayiye.....(You go on asking the directions, but do not step on the path;how can you reach the Beloved’s destination merely by talking? You go to the doctor for treatment but do not take the medicineproperly and regularly; how can you get rid of the disease and livein comfortable peace? You ask a faithful, wedded spouse for alife of love, but your actions are that of a separated wife; howcan you expect your husband to come to your bed? And finally, you recite the Scriptures with closed eyes and sing and hearsermons, but you cannot achieve self-realising unless you live theteachings of your Guru in life.)Ever since I received the grace to love Guru Granth Sahib andtook my final vows to live the principles, I have found that I have noproblems. As a matter of fact the problems arise only in alienationfrom the Guru’s Word. Therefore, the challenges in the new millenniumwill be met and can be met by living the principles enunciated in GuruGranth Sahib.Even at the cost of repetition, I would like to dwell on thespecialties that Guru Granth Sahib offers in the solution of Man’sproblems:When all religions project their systems and believe that theirown system is valid for living a life of peace and happiness, GuruGranth Sahib emphasises that any system, when followed insincerity, leads to that peace.Guru Granth Sahib not only respects all religions and religiouspractices, but has included the sayings of religious prophets and theirsayings, other than Sikh Gurus and given them equal status as Word Guru.
