SGPC President Avtar SinghMakkar today said that he was in favour <strong>of</strong> the enactment <strong>of</strong> the All-India Gurdwara Act.Talking to mediapersons after presiding over a prize distributionfunction at Mata Gujri College here, Makkar said that though the SGPCwas in favour <strong>of</strong> the enactment <strong>of</strong> the All-India Gurdwara Act, the Centrewas not cooperating with it. Interestingly, Shiromani Akali Dal chief ParkashSingh Badal has maintained a studied silence on the issue.In reply to a query, Makkar clarified that the SGPC had not givenrecognition to the Pakistan <strong>Sikh</strong> Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee(PSGPC), but had decided to extend cooperation for the maintenance<strong>of</strong> gurdwaras there. He said a delegation <strong>of</strong> the SGPC would be sentto Pakistan soon to assess the condition <strong>of</strong> gurdwaras. Asked whetherthe projects initiated by his predecessor Bibi Jagir Kaur would continue,Makkar said that he would review them.On the verdict <strong>of</strong> the Akal Takht Jathedar to boycott Chandigarhbasednewspaper ‘Spokesman’, he said, “It’s our duty to obey the AkalTakht’s verdict.”Later, Mata Gujri College additional secretary Ranjit Singh Libraand principal Gurmohan Singh Walia honoured Makkar.
