114ABSTRACTS OF SIKH STUDIES : JAN-MARCH <strong>2006</strong> / 537-38 NSConvention, by and large, endorsed the constitution <strong>of</strong> the proposedInternational <strong>Sikh</strong> Confederation with minor amendments relating tothe enrolment <strong>of</strong> members, eligibility and age <strong>of</strong> the members, etc.Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included SardarSurjit Singh, President Gurdwara Khalsa Darbar, Vancouver, BC,Canada, Sardar Charanjit Singh, President, Canadian <strong>Sikh</strong> Study andTeaching Society, Vancouver, BC, Canada, Dr Surjit Singh Dhillon,former President <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sikh</strong> Gurdwara, Cleveland, Ohio as representative<strong>of</strong> World <strong>Sikh</strong> Council (America Region), Sardar Balwant Singh Hansra,a Member Parliament <strong>of</strong> World Religions, Chicago, USA, Dr GurnamKaur, Punjabi University, Patiala, Dr Prithipal Singh Kapur, Ex-Pro-VC, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Dr Kehar Singh, FormerChairman, Punjab School Education Board, Dr Balkar Singh, Head(retd.), Department <strong>of</strong> Guru Granth Sahib <strong>Studies</strong>, Punjabi University,Patiala, Sardar Charanjit Singh Paul, Chief Income Tax Commissioner,Ludhiana & Dr Milkha Singh, Australia.Giani Harinder Singh, President, Kendri Singh Sabha, presidedover the opening session and endorsed the formation <strong>of</strong> thisConfederation. He concluded the morning session with a very vigorousand enlightening address. He requested all to join in and proceedforward to the final destination. The foreign delegates’ role andpresence was lauded by Dr Sukhmandir Singh, Chairman for the Sundaymorning session. As many as 30 (thirty) delegates from variouscountries <strong>of</strong> the USA, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore attendedthe convention and are likely to take part in further sessions.In the evening session, which was chaired by Dr Kulwant Kaur,Dr Kirpal Singh, a veteran Historian emphasized that a collectiveleadership <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Sikh</strong> Panth was a dire necessity <strong>of</strong> the Panth.Parminder Singh (USA), Dr Harnam Singh Shan, an eminent <strong>Sikh</strong>scholar, Brig Gurdip Singh, S Gurbachan Singh Bachan, Dr G S Kalkat,Ex-Vice-Chancellor, PAU and Sardar Ujagar Singh, USA also spoke inthe evening session.~~~3Chandigarh, November 13, 2005.
