University of South CarolinaLEGACY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONDeadline: December 31, 2011(For students entering in August 2012)The University of South Carolina Alumni Association Legacy Scholarship program was establishedin 1988 to encourage the academically talented children of the University’s alumni to attend theirparent’s alma mater. Awards are made to entering freshmen.Legacy scholarships are funded by My Carolina Alumni Association and the contributions of itsmembers. As funds permit, awards are made on a first-come, first-served basis to those whomeet all requirements and have applied by the deadline date.The amount of the Legacy award is $500 per academic year. Out-of-state students are also eligibleto receive a tuition rate reduction. Half of the yearly scholarship amount is issued each semester fora maximum of 8 semesters (summer school excluded) provided eligibility is maintained.Applications may be downloaded at www.MyCarolina.org/scholarships.Applicants are urged to apply as early as possible. Eligibility Requirements for the Legacy Scholarship AwardDeadline: Please apply before December 31, 2011At least one parent, legal guardian or grandparent must be a graduate of a University ofSouth Carolina campus and a current member of My Carolina Alumni Association.Application must be typed or printed legibly.Test scores and grade point average (GPA) must be recorded. Applications missing thisinformation will not be processed.Student and parent/grandparent signatures are required.Applications may be faxed, but a hard copy of the application must follow.Applicants who are South Carolina residents must present an officially verified score of atleast 1180 on the combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading sections (USC does not factorSAT Writing scores into scholarship selection.) Applicants must also have a weighted corecourse GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) as calculated by the Office of UndergraduateAdmissions.Out-of-state applicants must present an officially verified score of at least 1200 on thecombined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading sections (USC does not factor SAT Writingscores into scholarship selection.) Applicants must also have a weighted core course GPA ofat least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) as calculated by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.Generally, an ACT score of at least 26 (in state) or 27 (out of state) may be substituted for theSAT score.To be awarded the scholarship, applicants must be accepted for admission to the Universityof South Carolina.To retain the Legacy Scholarship for up to 8 semesters of study:Sponsoring parent, legal guardian or grandparent must maintain paid membership in theCarolina Alumni Association.Cumulative (University of South Carolina) GPA of at least 3.0 must be maintained.Recipients must continue full-time enrollment as determined by University regulations.
