State CCC regionalworkshops go on tourTHIS year the State ClientConsultative Committee (CCC) willhit the road and travel to regionalQueensland centres for informationCCC workshops.Workshops will incorporatesome elements of the traditionalconvention and a morning tea<strong>with</strong> key League staff to celebratethe League’s 60 years of serviceprovision in Queensland.The first regional events arescheduled for Hervey Bay onTuesday, 8 April followed byRockhampton on Thursday, 10 April.A Gold Coast event is planned for themiddle of the year, <strong>with</strong> a Brisbaneworkshop scheduled for Saturday,9 August. Workshops will finish upin Toowoomba on Wednesday, 12Parents and Guardians AssociationWelcome to <strong>2008</strong>.In 1948 a small group of responsible and caring parentsfounded the then Spastic Children’s’ Welfare League.Their determination paid off when the first two childrenwere accepted by the organisation on 11 March 1948.The efforts of these parents are well documented inLeague publications that marked our 50th anniversaryand here we are well into our 60th year of service toadults, children and families.The League has planned a year of events andcelebrations and as the details become available,we trust that you’ll be able to join us on one or moreoccasion.We farewelled CEO Bruce Milligan in January and wishto thank him for the understanding and courtesy heextended to the Parents and Guardians Association.He made an enthusiastic and valuable contribution tothe League during his eight years and we wish himevery success in his new role as Deputy DirectorGeneral at Disability Services Queensland.We also welcome Angela Tillmanns, the newlyappointed CEO and look forward to working closelyNovember.Invitations will beforwarded to allclients in eachregion as workshopdates draw closer.The Brisbaneevent will have afamily focus andencourage service users of all agesto get involved and celebrate theLeague’s 60th birthday.The workshops will be attended by aState CCC representative, the newCEO Angela Tillmanns, Geoff Rowe,Manager Service Developmentand Policy, Wendy Lavelle, ClientLiaison and Information Officer,and Board representatives wherepossible.<strong>with</strong> her on stakeholder issues.We are pleased that our services are now extended toTownsville and we hope to liaise <strong>with</strong> the committedand the dynamic group of parent supporters who arealready working hard up there.We would like to congratulate Dr Andrew Blair and MrsFaye Owens who have each been awarded an ‘Orderof Australia Medal’ in recognition of their service to theCerebral Palsy League of Queensland.Our aim this year is to increase membership byengaging <strong>with</strong> as many young families as possible.To that end we will be having a planning session nextmonth and will work closely <strong>with</strong> the State CCC onorganising a Brisbane event that promotes consultationand celebration.We look forward to seeing you there!Regards,Joan WilliamsPresidentParents and Guardians AssociationThe State CCC looks forward tomeeting as many regional serviceusers as possible to discuss ways ofproviding better services to clientsand their families.If you would like moreinformation about theCCC Regional Workshopsphone 07 3358 8011 or emailstateccc@cplqld.org.auLeague News Volume 32 Edition 1, <strong>2008</strong> - Page
