In addition, a further 250 chargepoints will be installed across Scotland and connected to Charge Your Car by March 2013,more than doubling the size of the Charge Your Car network.Transport Scotland purchased the OCPP (open charge point protocol) compliant chargepoints from manufacturers (in alphabetical order) APT, Charging Solutions, Elektromotive,PODPoint and Siemens, and is connecting them to Charge Your Car’s OCPP charge pointmanagement system.Charge Your Car is the UK’s first national open access network. Launched in 2010 as theNorth East Plugged in Places scheme, it was the first network to introduce DC rapid chargepoints and in 2011 the first to introduce pay-as-you-go recharging, using a pay-by-phonesystem. This customer focused approach enables EV drivers to roam and access recharginginfrastructure in the same way that they buy petrol or park their car, that is, without multiplemembership cards or payment of subscriptions.Charge Your Car works by connecting EV drivers to charge point owners, providing a highquality service to both customer groups. From April 2013 EV drivers will be able to accessthe Charge Your Car network via an app on their smartphone. Unlike current apps which

offer limited map functionality, the Charge Your Car app will enable EV drivers to access andinstigate a charge at any pay-as-you-go charge point, making recharging quick, convenientand affordable.Charge Your Car is the first network to offer charge point owners a fully-managed service, making their charge points accessible to all EV drivers and providing them with the ability tocharge for usage and collect revenues. By joining Charge Your Car, charge point ownersand regional networks will benefit from increased revenues and decreased costs, meaningthat charge points can more quickly become self-funding, reducing or eliminating anyreliance on public sector subsidies.Charge points will be promoted to EV drivers across the UK via the Charge Your Car app, website and e-newsletters. Charge Your Car will collect payments from EV drivers on behalfof charge point owners, clearing funds to them on a monthly or quarterly basis. Personalisedpages of the Charge Your Car website will enable charge point owners to set charge pointaccess rights and pricing, view charge point status, and receive alerts and reports.Mike Foster, Senior Project Manager at Transport Scotland said: “Transport Scotland isputting in place the infrastructure that will enable Scotland’s motorists to purchase andoperate electric vehicles. By joining the Charge Your Car network we are ensuring that EVdrivers everywhere will be able to access and use our infrastructure in a way that isconvenient for them”Alexandra Prescott, Operations Manager at Charge Your Car said: “We’re delighted thatTransport Scotland has chosen to join the Charge Your Car network, bringing us anotherstep closer to our goal of 10,000 public access pay-as-you-go charge points across the UK.”-Ends-Notes to EditorsIn preparation for a network roll-out of pay-as-you-go commencing in 2013, Charge Your Car Limitedis developing a feature-rich, second-generation charge point management system (CPMS) that willconnect charge point hosts to EV drivers across the UK.This transition from locally authenticated charge points using RFID (radio frequency identification) toback office authenticated charge points using OCPP (open charge point protocol) will enable thecreation of a fully interoperable national charge point network, connecting regional networks and

individual charge point owners, meaning EV drivers can roam without limitation on a pay-as-you-gobasis.Using the Charge Your Car smartphone app currently under development, EV drivers will be able tolocate, route map, charge and pay using any smartphone – an industry first. Charge point owners willbe able to connect any OCPP compliant charge point to the Charge Your Car network and let ChargeYour Car do the work in promoting their charge points to all EV drivers, providing a remotemanagement facility and collecting charge point revenues on their behalf. For press information and images, contact PFPR Communications:Camilla Parsons Yasmine Triana Peter Coxcamilla.parsons@pfpr.comyasmine.triana@pfpr.com peter.cox@pfpr.com+44 (0)1622 766528 +44 (0)1622 766521 +44 (0)1622 766527
