Restoring a Database to a RSG and Recovering a MailboxRECOVERY (RESTORE) OF EXCHANGE SERVER 2007 OR 2003 WITH THE EXCHANGE CLIENTNOTE: If the cluster resource is not brought online after arestore, subsequent operations may fail with a Database isin use error.Restoring a Database to a RSG and Recovering a MailboxThis topic describes how to recover an <strong>Exchange</strong> database to a Recovery StorageGroup, then recover a single mailbox from that Storage Group.This procedure might be useful if an <strong>Exchange</strong> mailbox was accidently deleted andmessage level backups had not been performed.IMPORTANT: Restore may fail if the Backup Agent serviceis running on the Local System Account. Refer to ManuallyCreating the <strong>Avamar</strong>Backup<strong>User</strong> Account for <strong>Exchange</strong>Server 2007 clients (page 79) for instructions on how to createthe Backup <strong>User</strong> account and assigning it the correctpermissions. If you have already configured your <strong>Exchange</strong>servers for message-level backups, this can be ignoredbecause the Backup Agent service will already be runningunder an account with the proper permissions.Refer to Microsoft Document, Using <strong>Exchange</strong> Server 2003 Recovery StorageGroups, for additional information about recovering an <strong>Exchange</strong> database to aRecovery Storage group.1. For <strong>Exchange</strong> Server 2007, skip steps 1.a. and 1.b., and go to step 2.For <strong>Exchange</strong> Server 2003, from System Manager:(a) Add Recovery Storage Group to <strong>Exchange</strong> server.(b) Add database to Recovery Storage Group.2. From <strong>Avamar</strong> Administrator:(a) Locate the database backup you want to restore.(b) If restoring to a different server, browse to the server and selectWindows <strong>Exchange</strong> Database.(c) Click More Options.(d) Select the Restore into Recovery Storage Group check box.(e) Select the Allow database overwrite check box.(f) In the Redirected storage group path field, specify the path for thestorage group.-or-(g) Accept the default path, “C:\Restore.”AVAMAR <strong>5.0</strong> • AVAMAR EXCHANGE CLIENT USER GUIDE 67
