Commercial Bank<strong>in</strong>gThis unit, which manages SMEs, has once aga<strong>in</strong> posted year-on-year growth <strong>in</strong> loans anddeposits. Commercial Bank<strong>in</strong>g has recently accessed new sectors, while expand<strong>in</strong>g its presence<strong>in</strong> those where it was already active. A food franchise segment has been set up to meet thecredit, cash management and capital market needs of the owners of restaurant franchises <strong>in</strong> theUnited States. In addition, equipment f<strong>in</strong>ance and leas<strong>in</strong>g activities began <strong>in</strong> the fourth quarter of<strong>2012</strong>, which will be focused primarily on companies with sales <strong>in</strong> excess of USD 100m. This newactivity will boost and support the planned access to other segments, such as transportation,agribus<strong>in</strong>ess and healthcare. The bus<strong>in</strong>ess is currently <strong>in</strong> its <strong>in</strong>itial stages and is expected to beg<strong>in</strong>its production activity by the end of the second quarter of 2013.Corporate Bank<strong>in</strong>gThis unit, which specializes <strong>in</strong> large corporations, has <strong>in</strong>creased the size of its loan portfolioby more than 40% over the last twelve months. Corporate Bank<strong>in</strong>g is plann<strong>in</strong>g to expandits presence <strong>in</strong> various activities and bus<strong>in</strong>esses, such as foreign exchange, derivatives andcommercial credit card products, <strong>in</strong> order to create a more robust market segment and a morecomprehensive range of products with greater added value for customers, as well as start<strong>in</strong>g toattract <strong>in</strong>ternational customers.Retail Bank<strong>in</strong>gThe Retail Bank<strong>in</strong>g division of <strong>BBVA</strong> Compass has seen its loan portfolio grow significantly <strong>in</strong> <strong>2012</strong>thanks to the <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> residential real-estate loans. Customer funds have also grown above alllower-cost items.This area has played a key role <strong>in</strong> offer<strong>in</strong>g the most <strong>in</strong>novative and <strong>in</strong>teractive technology toprovide greater convenience to its customers. Nearly 6% of new customers have been attractedonl<strong>in</strong>e, and this figure is expected to <strong>in</strong>crease with the <strong>in</strong>vestments planned for the onl<strong>in</strong>e channel.Follow<strong>in</strong>g the strategy to <strong>in</strong>crease customer loyalty, the Retail Bank<strong>in</strong>g unit launched productsand services that <strong>in</strong>clude price differentiation, f<strong>in</strong>ancial advisory service, discounts on certa<strong>in</strong>services, as well as units that are fully dedicated to customer service (more personalized andfaster, and with extended hours).Regard<strong>in</strong>g liability products, <strong>BBVA</strong> Compass launched a campaign to attract money-marketaccounts <strong>in</strong> the second quarter of <strong>2012</strong>, which has resulted <strong>in</strong> the open<strong>in</strong>g of many accounts andan <strong>in</strong>crease <strong>in</strong> customer deposits over the year. In addition, through the “Everyday Hero” program,customers who qualify, such as fire departments, police stations and hospitals, are offered buildto-ordercheck<strong>in</strong>g accounts with no monthly service charge.Wealth ManagementThe lend<strong>in</strong>g growth of this division has benefited from the low rates environment. Demanddeposits have also grown over the last twelve months. This <strong>in</strong>crease is partially related to thenew products launched <strong>in</strong> <strong>2012</strong>, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g a national structured note solution, an <strong>in</strong>ternational<strong>in</strong>tegrated account product and several creative solutions aimed meet<strong>in</strong>g customer needs.Wealth Management has started to expand its sales force and expects to treble the number off<strong>in</strong>ancial advisors by the end of 2013 <strong>in</strong> order to meet the needs of customers.194 Bus<strong>in</strong>ess areas
