Proline Promass 83 Modbus RS485InstallationInstallation in a vertical pipeThe proposed configuration in the following diagram, however, permits installation in a verticalpipeline. Pipe restrictors or the use of an orifice plate with a smaller cross-section than the nominaldiameter prevent the sensor from running empty during measurement.12345Fig. 8: Installation in a vertical pipe (e.g. for batching applications)1 = Supply tank, 2 = Sensor, 3 = Orifice plate, pipe restrictions (see Table), 4 = Valve, 5 = Batching tanka0003597Ø Orifice plate, pipe restrictorØ Orifice plate, pipe restrictorDNmm inch DNmm inch1 1/24" 0.8 0.03 40 FB 1 ½" 35 1.382 1/12" 1.5 0.06 50 2" 28 1.104 1/8" 3.0 0.12 50 FB 2" 54 2.008 3/8" 6 0.24 80 3" 50 2.0015 1/2" 10 0.40 100 4" 65 2.6015 FB 1/2" 15 0.60 150 6" 90 3.5425 1" 14 0.55 250 10" 150 5.9125 FB 1" 24 0.95 350 14" 210 8.2740 1 ½" 22 0.87FB = Full bore versions of Promass ISystem pressureIt is important to ensure that cavitation does not occur, because it would influence the oscillationof the measuring tube. No special measures need to be taken for fluids which have properties similarto water under normal conditions. In the case of liquids with a low boiling point (hydrocarbons, solvents, liquefied gases) or in suctionlines, it is important to ensure that pressure does not drop below the vapor pressure and that theliquid does not start to boil. It is also important to ensure that the gases that occur naturally in manyliquids do not outgas. Such effects can be prevented when system pressure is sufficiently high. For this reason, the following installation locations are preferred:• Downstream from pumps (no danger of vacuum)• At the lowest point in a vertical pipe.Issue/Rev. 0.2 (12/12) MN0M030 • Page 15
