ProceduresSuperintendent or designee is authorized to development procedures, guidelines, andforms consistent with implementation of this policy.Adopted: 11/20/97Revised: 07/26/014.07HEALTH EDUCATION CURRICULUMThe health education curriculum at each grade level shall comply with therequirements of the Alabama Course of Study.Any program or curriculum in Calhoun County Schools that includes componentsof sex education or the human reproductive process (including but not limited to HealthEducation, Family and Consumer Science courses, and other science courses such asbiology) shall, as a minimum, meet the guidelines as addressed in the Alabama Courseof Study for Health Education regarding the Abstinence Law, §16-40-1.1 of the Code ofAlabama. Students in grades 5-12 shall receive age-appropriate annual instructionabout the prevention of HIV/AIDS.The one-half unit Health Education course required for graduation shall includeCPR instruction provided by CPR-certified Health Education teachers. It shall alsoinclude education regarding mental and emotional health and suicide awareness.Adopted: 08/23/01Revised: 10/28/04Important Note: The following requirements remain applicable to students whoentered 9 th grade during the 2008 - 2009 school year, or earlier. Page down to findrequirements for students entering 9 th grade in 2009 - 2010 or later.GRADUATION / DIPLOMA REQUIREMENTSThe Alabama State Department of Education requires that any student receiving a highschool diploma, other than the Alabama Occupational Diploma, must pass theAlabama High School Graduation Examination and fulfill state and localrequirements regarding Carnegie Units.A Certificate of Attendance may be awarded to a student who has completed therequired number of Carnegie Units (24) for graduation, but has not passed the AlabamaHigh School Graduation Exam. The Certificate of Attendance may also be awarded to astudent covered under IDEA who has completed Grade 12 and has met the objectives4.08
