would have acted under the same or similar circumstances, except damages thatmay result for the gross negligence of the person rendering emergency care.This immunity shall extend to the licensed physician or medical authority who isinvolved in automated external defibrillator site placement, the person whoprovides training in CPR and the use of the automated external defibrillator, andthe person or entity responsible for the site where the automated externaldefibrillator is located. This subsection specifically excludes from the provision ofimmunity any designers, manufacturers, or sellers of automated externaldefibrillators for any claims that may be brought against such entities based uponcurrent Alabama law.Adopted: 08/26/048.14CALHOUN COUNTY SCHOOLS WELLNESS <strong>POLICY</strong>The <strong>Calhoun</strong> <strong>County</strong> School System promotes healthy schools by supporting wellness,good nutrition, and regular physical activity as a part of the total learning environment.The System supports a healthy environment where children learn and participate inpositive dietary and lifestyle practices. By facilitating learning through the support andpromotion of good nutrition and physical activity, schools contribute to the basic healthstatus of children. Improved health optimizes student performance potential.A. Provide a comprehensive learning environment for developing and practicinglifelong wellness behaviors.The entire school environment, not just the classroom, shall be aligned with healthyschool goals to positively influence a student’s understanding, beliefs, and habits asthey relate to good nutrition and regular physical activity. A healthy schoolenvironment should not be dependent on revenue from high-fat, low nutrient foods tosupport school programs.B. Support and promote proper dietary habits contributing to students’ healthstatus and academic performance.All foods available on school grounds and at school-sponsored activities during theinstructional day should meet or exceed the State Guidelines. Emphasis shouldbe placed on foods that are nutrient dense per calorie. Foods should be served withconsideration toward variety, appeal, taste, safety, and packaging to ensure highquality meals.C. Increase the amount of time students are engaged in physical activity.A quality physical education program is an essential component for all students tolearn about and participate in physical activity. Physical activity opportunities shouldbe included in a school’s daily education program from grades K through 12.Physical activity should include regular instructional physical education, co-curricularactivities, and recess.
