The results of drug and alcohol testing will not be released by the <strong>Calhoun</strong> <strong>County</strong>Board of Education, beyond the Medical Review Officer and the school system’smanagement, without the individual’s written authorization.Adopted: 12/16/94DRUG AND ALCOHOL PROGRAM PROCEDURESIntroductionExperience and research has proven that even small quantities of narcotics, abusedprescription drugs or alcohol can impair judgement and reflexes. Even when not readilyapparent, this impairment of judgement and reflexes can have serious results,particularly for employees operating vehicles or potentially dangerous equipment. Drugusing employees are a threat to co-workers, school safety, and themselves, and theymay make costly errors. For these reasons, the <strong>Calhoun</strong> <strong>County</strong> Board of Educationhas adopted a policy that all employees must report to work completely free from thepresence of drugs and/or the effects of alcohol.I. Drug Use/Distribution/Impairment/PossessionAll employees are prohibited from using, possessing, distributing, manufacturing, orhaving controlled substances, abused prescription drugs or any other mind altering orintoxicating substances present in their system while at work or on duty.6.43II.Alcohol Use/Possession/ImpairmentAll employees are prohibited from possessing, drinking, or being impaired or intoxicatedby alcohol while at work or on duty. While employees are prohibited from having anyalcohol present in their system while on duty, a Breath Alcohol Concentration (BrAC) of0.040 will be accepted as presumptive evidence of intoxication.III.Off-Duty ConductOff-the job use of drugs, alcohol, or any other prohibited substances which result inimpaired work performance, including, but not limited to, absenteeism, tardiness, poorwork product, or harm to the school system’s image or relationship with society isprohibited. Employees should realize that these regulations prohibit all illicit drug useon and off duty.IV.Prescription DrugsThe proper use of medication prescribed by a physician is not prohibited; however, the<strong>Calhoun</strong> <strong>County</strong> Board of Education prohibits the misuse of prescribed (or over thecounter) medication and requires all employees using drugs at the direction of aphysician to notify the <strong>Calhoun</strong> <strong>County</strong> Board of Education’s Medical Review Officer
