Activation4.1 AntennaScrews must be used to connect thequad band antenna to the antennaaerial socket of the KLARO modemKM12. The antenna must be positionedso that reliable reception isensured. Check reception quality onsiteby checking the reception qualityof the SIM card in a mobile phone.You can also measure reception qualitywith the KLARO@kom-Software(see chapter 7.1).4.2 SIM cardFor the operation of the KLARO modemKM12, a valid SIM card must beinserted in the KLARO modem KM12.••1.8 or 3 V type SIM card••A contract-based card is betterthan a prepaid card (no messagewhen credit expires)••Deactivate PIN (To do this, insertthe SIM card in the mobile phoneand deactivate PIN request in the„Safety“ menu.)Switch off the KLARO modem KM12(LED off) and insert the SIM card inthe modem (also see chapter 5.3).There is a small recessed yellow buttonnext to the SIM card compartment.Press this button with a pointedobject (e.g. a pen) to push out thecompartment. Now the compartmentcan be removed. Place the SIM cardin the compartment (the SIM cardmust lie flat in the compartment) andreinsert the compartment with theSIM card in the slot. Make sure thatthe chip points upwards.4.3 Switching on the KLARO modem KM12After having inserted the card, themodule can be connected to themains.The red LED lights up briefly. TheKLARO modem KM12 now tries to logon to the mobile network of availableproviders, and the LED flashes rapidly(sequence: 600 ms on / 600 ms off).After successfully logging on, the LEDflashes slowly (sequence: 75 ms on /3s off). The KLARO modem KM12 isnow ready for communication. Theremay be several causes if the signaldoes not change (see chapter 0 and6).KLARO GmbH 9
