Department of Teaching Chineseas a Second Language (DTCSL)• DTCSL is the first program in Taiwanoffering BA and MA degrees to studentswho have completed trainings in TCSL.• DTCSL provides the students with diverseand comprehensive basic knowledge inTCSL.• DTCSL is a world leader in TCSL, with aninnovative vision for applied Chinesedepartments.

The mission of DTCSL is to train Chinese teachingprofessionals and researchers following theprinciples of Holistic Education while combiningChinese language and literature, applied linguistics,second language acquisition, foreign languages,education, information technology andcommunication to promote Chinese language andculture throughout the world, and to establishChinese studies networks.【Mission】9

【Characteristics】The goal of DTCSL is to train Chineseteaching professionals whose prospectivestudents will be both foreigners andoverseas Chinese, either in Taiwan orabroad, and who are able to workinternationally, cross-culturally, andmultilingually.

The Bachelor’s Degree Program1. The program of study is divided into 4 categories:Chinese Teaching Pedagogy, Chinese Literature,Instructional Technology and Communication,and Applied Linguistics.2. Professional training of lower- and medium-levelteachers in TCSL3. Internship training either in Taiwan or abroad for36 hours4. Capstone Projects【Syllabus 】

【Syllabus 】Master’s Degree Program1. The program of study includes required andelective courses. The elective courses aredivided into 3 categories: Chinese Linguisticsand Second Language Acquisition, ChineseEducation, and Chinese Society and Culture.2. Training of professional higher level teachersand researchers in TCSL3. Internship training either in Taiwan or abroadfor 72 hours4. Master’s thesis

• Based on the program objectives, i.e.cultivating students with the abilities ofCreativity, Innovation, Entrepreneurship,critical thinking, and with aglobal view, students are trained toincorporate the 3 modes and 5 C goals,thus, the program is constructed asfollows:

• Chinese culture and literature whichfocus on both classic and modernChinese literature• Chinese linguistics which focuses ondeveloping students’ analytic andproblem solving abilities related toChinese grammar

• Applied language studies whichcultivate students with the knowledgeof 5Cs through the training of foreignlanguages, and cross-culturalcommunication courses• Chinese teaching pedagogy whichassists students to develop the conceptof team work through capstoneprojects and practicum

• Instructional technology andcommunication which assist studentsto develop teaching materialscombined with instructionaltechnology, and to become life longlearners

A copy of official certificate of Chineselanguage proficiency to show that theapplicant’s language proficiency is at Level9 or above of Chinese Proficiency Test(HSK), or at Level 6 or above of ChineseProficiency Test-Taiwan (CPTT)2.
