Power quality analyzersAnalizadores de calidad de suministroThe transport of electrical energy is subjectto many variations and factors that cancause the quality of the supply voltage tonot always be as desired. Several factors, such as inclement weather, excessive distancesin the distribution lines or the connectionof loads with excessive distortionare some of the causes that may affect theproper quality of the electric supply.Industries use increasingly more sophisticatedprocesses with a greater numberof control, automation and regulation elements, allowing companies to execute suchprocesses automatically and be more competitive. In general, said loads are very sensitiveto voltage variations, which can leadto faulty performance and critical problemsin processes. Meanwhile, companies areincreasingly investing in the measurementand control of the quality of the electricsupply to avoid the costs generally associatedwith productive processes. It has become essential to control not onlythe costs associated with the supply’s lackof continuity, but also those associated withits lack of quality. It is of vital importanceto supervise the smooth operation of theinstallation and the equipment connectedto it, and to conduct proper energy managementto avoid the unnecessary overconsumption. The globalization of markets also givesthe various actors involved in the electricalenergy generation, transport and consumptionprocesses the need to talk on equalterms in order to face the new challengesahead that come along with the optimisationof both distribution lines and electricalinstallations. The future of Smart Grids iscurrently making a strong impact on the entirenetwork of electrical distribution lines, allowing automation of substations and optimisingof existing resources.Measurement in various points on the distributionlines makes it necessary to haveequipment that guarantees, on the onehand, the absolute validity of the measurement(in compliance with the IEC-61000-4-30 standard), and on the other hand, proven robustness when implementedin complex environments. We are talkingabout equipment of reference for utilitiesthroughout the world in very different environmentsand distribution lines. At thesame time, companies are operating inincreasingly global environments, forcingthem to be more competitive and to optimisetheir processes. Therefore, the electricaldisturbances affecting productive processesin companies must be analysed andstudied with the purpose of improving andprotecting installations against such disturbances.Q.2Q2-3

Power quality analyzersAplicationsDefinitionThe QNA power quality analyzerscomply with the strictestinternational standards. Currently, the IEC-61000-4-30standard specifies the way inwhich this type of equipmentmust take the measurements ofa set of parameters. The standardhas defined 3 classes:Firstly, class A is reserved forthe most accurate equipment, which must comply with thestrict measurement methodologyand have a high degreeof accuracy in all parametersmeasured. The equipmentcertified with class A accuracyin this standard will be usedas pattern elements and canbe used to resolve any type ofdispute.Secondly is class S, which followsthe same measurementmethod as class A equipmentbut which does not require thesame level of accuracy. Thisequipment is normally used atindustry connection points withthe distribution lines or in substations.Circutor has electricpower quality analyzers forboth classes aimed at mee-ting the needs of industries orfor any customer that requiresan exhaustive analysis of theirelectrical installation in orderto improve productivity andavoid problems caused byelectrical disturbances. The log of historical valuesgives us an insight into theevolution and tendency of thesupply voltage and the powerconsumed in the electrical installation, also letting us identifyanomalies that may interferewith the optimum performanceof the machines and systemsconnected to the network.Any voltage event can beperceived to cause improperfunctioning in certain types ofelectronic equipment. Loggingthese incidents according tothe network quality class AIEC-61000-4-30 standard letsus accurately identify the causesof malfunctions and thustake the necessary correctivemeasures to minimize productivitycosts. The new QNA500 seriesmeets the most necessaryrequirements to perform a correctanalysis of the electricalpower quality, providing theuser with precise and detailedinformation on the evolutionof all electrical variables,as well as any disturbancesthat could affect the smoothoperation of the machinesconnected to the electricalnetwork. Also, using CIRCUTOR’sPowerVision + and PowerStudiosoftware, the usercan automate many of theanalyzer’s functions, as wellas customize alarms, SCADAscreens and even run customizedreports in accordance withEN-50160 quality standardsand other applicable regulations.Big industry and large energyconsumersThe network quality studyin the network connectionpoint is particularly importantfor the optimisation ofthe productive processes ofcompanies. The detectionof any network disturbancesand assessment of the contentof harmonic distortion ininstallations and the energyconsumed are the parametersthat must be assessedin any installation, with thepurpose of improving itsperformance. CIRCUTOR’ssystems offer the solutionsrequired to cater for theseneeds. Notification via e-mailor SMS alarms can be sentwhen a programmed eventtakes place. This minimisesthe problem in many cases, since different actions can beimplemented on the differentburdens, thus avoiding greaterproblems associated toproduction processes.Multi-point buildingsThe QNA500 lets you combinethe measurements takenin different buildings of asingle owner (ex. supermarkets, bank branches) in orderto collectively evaluate thesmooth operation and theproductivity levels that existthroughout the network ofestablishments. In this way, tracking and precautionarymeasures can be performedon electrical installations withpreventive maintenance thatcan avoid future incidents.Energy distributorsCurrently, many utilitiesthroughout the world useQNA power quality analyzersto analyze the behaviourof the quality of wavesin distribution lines. The highreliability and robustness ofthese analyzers, as well asthe CIRCUTOR’s proven experiencein measuring electricalparameters, lets usoffer products customized tothe needs of electrical energytransport and distributioncompanies.Their installation in HV or MVdistributioncells and remotemeasuring lets us obtain allthe necessary information ina short time and even lets usintegrate these analyzers inimprovements to sub-stationsthemselves within the evolutionof Smart Grids.Q2-4
