Apology
Through an error in communications between volunteers, last month I omitted putting the notice on the passing
of Kyle (Barney to most) Schafer. Barney will be sadly missed by the community, in particular his work behind
the scenes building and setting up displays at Morgan Museum. His energy and knowledge of all things
mechanical was an inspiration to all. Not only that, a happier and friendly person, you could ever meet.
To Pam, - Sue and I give you our heartfelt sympathy, and any help you may need, we will be there.
Morgan Scenic Cruises
Thanks to Marg Zerner for organizing a trip on our new Morgan tourism venture Morgan Scenic Cruises to
sample its delights and check out the water levels along the river.
An early start as Peter and Tracy, The new owners of Mt Mary Hotel could travel with us, so they could be back
in Mt Mary in time for Sunday opening at 11am. (great food I am told by Marg and Phil).
Great smooth ride with excellent viewing of our current water levels. On our return tourists were queuing up to
get on the next trip. And introductory only $10 per person, What value. Thanks Anna and Dean.

Still NO Full water allocation for our growers!
Drought water policy unsuited to flooding
I must be silly but with all the water going past, surely our SA fruit bowl growers should be able to use their FULL
water allocation, not just 67% of what they have paid good money for and own.
Even the The Murray-Darling Association thinks state powers to restrict water used by irrigators should be able
to be overruled by the Basin Authority. Association general secretary Ray Najar has appeared at a Federal
Parliamentary inquiry at Murray Bridge into future water use in the Basin.
"There shouldn't be any restrictions on water use for food production, there's just absolutely no need for it," he
said. "The small amount of water that we require for growers in South Australia to have full allocations, for
example, is [equivalent of] about two days' flow out of the Murray mouth.
"So it's ridiculous for the government to maintain a policy that was written for drought and use it in a flood
situation."
Mosquitoes
Take precautions against mosquitoes as numbers of the pests have exploded with higher river flows and warm,
humid weather. Mosquitoes carry diseases such as Ross River and Barmah Forrest virus and the number of
reported cases of both is on the rise.
The high river flows entering South Australia from the River Murray are providing a boon for fauna and flora on
the extensive floodplain, but the extra water is also creating ideal conditions for mosquitoes.
What you can do to help control them.
Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water so if there are pot plants, drip trays, old tyres that gather water, these are
ideal breeding places plus the use of personnel protection spray.
Also wearing loose fitting, light coloured clothing and applying insect repellent with DEET or Picaridan can also
reduce the risk of mosquito bites
