Purandeswari being felicitatedAround 300 delegates from different colleges and Universities across the country and from other countriesparticipated in the seminar. Eminent linguists like Prof. Tony Blackshield (Macquarie <strong>University</strong>, Sydney), Prof.Rosemary Huisman (<strong>University</strong> of Sydney, Sydney), Dr. Kevin Balchin (Canterbury Christchurch <strong>University</strong>,UK), Dr. Carys Jones (<strong>University</strong> of London, UK), Prof. V.V.N. Rajendra Prasad (S.K. <strong>University</strong>, Anantapur)gave plenary addresses.Prof. C.R. Visweswara Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Vikrama Simhapuri <strong>University</strong>, Nellore, delivered theValedictory address on 18-12-<strong>2010</strong>.. He traced the major trends in language pedagogy. Apart from the Inauguraland Valedictory sessions, there were seven plenary sessions and 37 parallel paper presenting sessionsaltogether.The Seminar has aroused widespread interest and enthusiastic response and about 250 papers havebeen presented on a wide range of topics of theoretical and practical interest reflecting the diversity of the usesthat the English language is called upon to serve in the modern world. Some of the topics covered are: Englishof the Law and Business, Stylistics, Language and Culture, Language of Literature, Sociolinguistics, the Teachingof English as a Second Language, Phonology, Computational Linguistics, Neurolinguistics. The Chief Guest Mr. Rahman gave alecture on the contribution of Mualana Abul Kalam Azadto the development of Education in free India. DEPARTMENT OF LIFELONG LEARNINGAwareness Programme on Fire Safety- PreventiveMeasuresIn view of the Diwali Festival, the Department of LifelongLearning organized an Awareness Programme on Fire Safety-Preventive Measures on 3rd November <strong>2010</strong>. The programmewas organized in collaboration with the Guntur DistrictDisaster Response and Department of Fire Services in Gunturwhere numerous shops were put up for Diwali.She advised all students to overcome stress in the followingmanner: to share all their feelings with their friends, relativesand especially with parents; Not to stay aloof or alone but tobe in group always; Make use of the time in very useful,productive and creative way.Inauguration of 45 Days Training Programme in CellPhone MecahanismThe Department of Lifelong Learning started "45 Days -Training Programme on Cell Phone Mechanism" to theunemployed youth. Seventy unemployed youth enrolled inthe programme on 2nd November, <strong>2010</strong>Sri Ch. Sambhasiva Rao, Director of Guntur DisasterResponse and Fire Services and Sri G. Ramanjaneyulu,Commissioner of Police of Guntur, were the main speakersfor the programme. Shop owners of crackers, buyers, pettysellers, general public, students, trainee staff of the DisasterResponse and Fire Services attended the programme.Sri Sambhasiva Rao explained the different safety measuresthat have to be taken by the sellers and buyers of crackers.Sri Ramanjaneyulu spoke about road safety, and police actionin cases of violation of the rules and cheating.Two-Day free Cell Phone Servicing CampThe Training Programme was inaugurated by the Chief GuestProf. Y.R. Haragopal Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of ANU whosaid that there are many opportunities for the youth in theTelecommunication field. Rector of ANU, Prof. K.V. Prasad, Principal of ANU Collegeof Arts, Commerce and Law were the invited guests for theprogramme.The Rector and the Principal gave away the certificates to allthe 45 unemployed youth.CENTRE FOR GANDHIAN STUDIESAfter giving 45 days Training to the unemployed youth onCell Phone Mechanism, the Dept. of Lifelong Learningorganized Two Days Free Cell Phone Servicing Camp in the<strong>University</strong> during 20-21 <strong>December</strong>, <strong>2010</strong>.The programme was inaugurated by Prof. N. Samuyelu, OSDof ANU and coordinated by Sri M.V. Ramana. All the learnersextended free service to the students, Teaching staff andsupporting staff of the university in the presence of theinstructor Sri Ch. Narasimha Rao. Special CampsThe NSS Cell of <strong>Acharya</strong> <strong>Nagarjuna</strong> <strong>University</strong> hassanctioned as many as 360 special camps during the year<strong>2010</strong>-2011. The important activities includeroadside bush-cutting, water tank cleaning, organization ofrallies on HIV/AIDS, and National Integration (Human Chain)and awareness on effects of micro-financing. The units ofKVR College, Nandigama, at their special camps atVeerulapadu had turned out good work which was wellappreciated by the villagers and officials. Volunteers havecleaned the jungle area around Primary Health Centre andrenovation of the road, literacy programmes and organisationof rallies on HIV/AIDS. SA William Booth Junior College,Bapatla, at the special camps of its two units at Vedullavillage, conducted Clean and Green programme and renovationof roads. LA Govt.College for Women, Machilipatnam at itsPlantation of saplings by Students ofAG & SGS Jr. College, Vuyyuruspecial camp held in Machilipatnam, has cleaned the courtpremises. The two units of Maris Stella College, Vijayawada,at their special camp at Autonagar, identified the problemsfaced by the Child Labour in units and factories, campaignedagainst domestic violence, HIV/AIDS and dowry system. Thethree units of Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada, have startedtheir special camp at Enikepadu on World AIDS Day. Theimportant activities taken up include socio-economic survey,Identification of HIV/AIDS Patients, Awareness campaign onHIV/AIDS, Dengue, swine flu diseases, etc. The three unitsof AG & SG Siddhartha Degree College, Vuyyuru, haveconducted special camps at Tadanki, Thotlavalluru & PulletlaVillages. The work turned out by the volunteers includesSocio-Economic survery, repaired roads, literacy campaign,elimination of the bushes on the banks of water tanks,organization of awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS, Dengueand swine flu diseases. The Coordinator attended the specialcamp of Dr.Zakir Hussain College, Ibrahimpatnam atKondapally and reviewed the progress of the activities.Mega Blood Donation CampThe NSS Cell organised Mega Blood Donation Camp in<strong>Acharya</strong> <strong>Nagarjuna</strong> <strong>University</strong> Campus on November 25,<strong>2010</strong>. COMMERCE SEMINARThe Department of Commerce and Business Administrationorganized a two day National Seminar on CustomerRelationship Management on 8-9 October, <strong>2010</strong>, sponsoredby AP State Council of Higher Education. This seminarwas inaugurated by Prof. D. Dakshina Murthy, former Deanof Commerce and presided by Prof. G. N. Brahamanandam,Principal of <strong>University</strong> College. Prof. T. Umamaheswara Rao,the Seminar Director and Head, Department of Commerceand Business Administration explained the importance ofCustomer Relationship Management and its impact of CRMon various sectors that are contributing to the growth ratefor Indian business environment.The seminar had four themes and organized asfour sessions. These are 1. Emerging Concepts of CRM,2. Role of CRM in Financial and Banking Sectors, 3. Roleof Knowledge Management in CRM, and 4. Role of IT &ITES in CRM. There were a total of 68 paper presentations.First session was chaired by Prof. DAR Subramanyama,Principal, Mahatma Gandhi College and he emphasizedthe importance of CRM for the growth of the business.Second session was chaired by Prof. C. This is the second time theuniversity has organised the All India Inter-<strong>University</strong> AthleticsMeet. Earlier it was conducted in 2004 on the universitycampus. In this major Sports event, teams from all parts ofthe country have taken part. This time the event wassponsored by Agri Gold Haailand, Vijayawada and AndhraCricket Association. An organising committee was formedunder the chairmanship of Prof.Y.R.Haragopal Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, ANU, to conduct this event.The meet was inaugurated by Prof. Y.R.Haragopal Reddy,Vice-Chancellor, ANU on 30th <strong>December</strong>, <strong>2010</strong>. ANU COLLEGE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION & SPORTS SCIENCESAbout 1700 Men athletes and 800 Women Athletes, 250team officials from 131 universities participated in this meet.This meet was organised under the technical supervision ofDr. C.K.Valson, International Technical Delegate who wasthe director of the Commonwealth Track and Field event heldat New Delhi. About 100 technical officials of Amateur AthleticFederation of India (AAFI) & Andhra Pradesh Amateur AthleticAssociation (APAAA) were involved in organising this megaevent. The B.P.Ed., & M.P.Ed. students of <strong>University</strong> Collegeof Physical Education & Sports Sciences, ANU, helped inboth technical and organisation aspects for the success ofthis event.The existing 400 Mts. running track was relaid. This time,an additional lane was provided to the existing eight lanetrack. In the 100 Mts. strip, a tenth lane was also added.The latest equipment of international standard was used duringthe Meet. A Photofinish Camera was installed at the finishline to give perfect result and timing. Seven New MeetRecords were established in different events.The Prizes for the Overall Champions were distributed bySri D. Manikya Varaprasad Rao, Minister for RuralDevelopment, NREGS, Govt. of A.P. on 03.01.2011. A Campfire was arranged on 1st January, 2011 and the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Y.R.
