For more information, see System Requirements for the StarTeam Cross-Platform Client onpage 41StarTeam 2009 supports compatibility between clients and servers which are either one release ahead orbehind one another. This support is provided for your convenience in implementing your upgrades to the latestrelease. Some functionality may only be available in the latest release. You will achieve best performance byupgrading your clients and servers to the same release.While some flexibility in client-server release combinations is allowed, StarTeam servers do not supportconnections from clients using an SDK older than StarTeam SDK 2006. This supported connection releasewill change in subsequent releases.Important: You must be a local administrator on the target computer to install StarTeam products.Setting up Default Personal OptionsThe StarTeam installation program copies the starteam-client-default-options.xml (if it exists) to theuser_home\Application Data\Borland\StarTeam folder on each client workstation. It will overwritean existing file with that name in that location. This file will be used as a template for the newstarteam-client-options.xml file as each user starts the StarTeam Cross-Platform Client for the firsttime.This allows for the distribution of the initial starteam-client-default-options.xml file— although notfrom the StarTeam Installation DVD.To provide all users of the StarTeam Cross-Platform Client with the same initial set of personal options:1. Perform a custom installation of StarTeam Server while selecting the Client Setup check box, so that thedisk image for StarTeam is installed in the Client Setup folder, a child folder of the StarTeam Serverinstallation folder.2. Make sure that this folder is one that all team members can access.3. Install the StarTeam Cross-Platform Client on only one computer.4. Set the personal options. See the Administering and Using StarTeam manual for details.5. Notice that you now have a file named starteam-client-options.xml in the user profile folder. On WindowsXP, this is in the C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Borland\StarTeamfolder.6. Copy this file to the Client Setup folder.42 | Installing StarTeam Clients

Close all running Windows applications.2. Run the downloaded installer, or if using replacement DVDs, insert the StarTeam 2009 Installation Disk 4DVD into your DVD drive. The StarTeam Launcher window should appear automatically.If the installation menu does not appear automatically from inserting the DVD, display it by performing thefollowing steps:1. From the Windows Start menu, select Start ➤ Run2. At the command prompt, type:x:\setup.exewhere x: is the drive letter of your DVD drive.3. Press Enter. The StarTeam 2009 installation main menu opens.3. On the StarTeam 2009 main menu, click Install Products.4. Click Cross-Platform Client and follow the installation instructions on the screen.1. For non-English versions, select a language from the drop-down list box, and then click OK.2. In the Introduction dialog box, read the information, and click Next.3.
