Presently the familiar note of a woodthrushcaught my ear, and looking upward,I perceived a tree near by filled with featheredsongsters and fowls of many species.With the enticement of grain scattered uponthe ground they followed us and were easilysettled in their new home.Meantime a crowd of idlers had gatheredto witness this extraordinary scene. Some,jeering the Prophet, inquired why he hadconcealed his magic under the pretense ofpiety and defied him to frighten them by thisexhibition of black art. Some endeavoredto drive back the animals, but were repulsedby angry growls, or a snap of the teeth toofierce to be again invited.
