MODEL RAILWAY GROUPMeeting Fridays -19:00/7.00pmContact President Cornelis de Grootfor further information.During the Oktoberfest, we are open onFridays and Saturdays from 19:00 toapprox. 21:30 --– 7.00pm to approx.9.30pm andthe last Sunday, Children’s Day,28/10/2012 : early afternoon. The group continued with tracklaying, total easily exceeds 400m, or 0.4km Theelectrical boys must be very close to haveconnected 2kms of wiring and are stilladding. Now they are in the process ofmaking the DC/DCC lines fully automaticand face the challenge of alternatingtrains at the platforms, and further, withthe testing task of all signals being successfullyoperationally installed.Landscaping is now well on the way, butthere seems to be another four to fiveyears of work ahead, and then more refining. One of the changes was a bigbare hill on the left side, (seen behindHeinz), now a fully landscaped showpiece. Also look for the new large city, with thetram trundling from station, through thebusy street, to a well-frequented café, allobviously enjoying the Oktoberfest fare.(to be continued)The latest addition: illuminated, sheltered, flowered and peopled platforms.Showing Heinz Runge and KurtKappeler in the very bare stages ofthe layout. The club is very keen to have new members. The club has members of manydescents: Austrian, Swiss, Dutch, Polish,Hungarian, Danish, and, of course, Australian, but oddly no German members. Itmatters not what your interests are, thereis a place for you! Also we are interestedin members who just want to run trainsand to just have a social evening andmake use of our extensive library.Old members, please report for helpingout at the Oktoberfest. EDELWEISS DANCEGROUPWell, if you weren’t at our annualAlpengaudi on Saturday, September8 th , you missed a fantastic evening. We celebrated the 50 th anniversaryof the foundation of thegroup with many past memberskicking up their heels. The atmospherewas wonderful. And did Imention the superb entertainment?Past members not only joined inwith a great rendition of “Edelweiss”on the bells but also slapped eachother silly in the “Watschenplattler”and flirted their little cotton socks offin the “Figuredance”.Our honorary members were alsothere, Regina, Dieter, Sieglinde andof course Hans “Schwarzenegger”Nimmerrichter.Fortunately for the group, the threelatter are still very active. It justgoes to show that dancing keepsyou young! We were thrilled when we were ableto book Nova Echo for the eveningas both Gill and Erwin were with thegroup way back when. Unfortunately, due to ill health, Erwin wasunable to play but Gill still came andhelped us celebrate. On behalf ofthe group, I would like to wish Erwina very speedy recovery and hope tosee him back playing and keepingGill in line. And on that note, we areindebted to both Anne and Ross(Alpen Duo) for stepping in at thelast moment and providing us withan evening of lovely music. We are now getting ready for themarathon that is the “Oktoberfest”.Hope to see many of you at the clubenjoying the food, beverages (did Ihear someone say Schnapps?) andentertainment. Finally, I would like to say a BIG thankyou to everyone in the group for all theirhard work, practice and dedication particularlyin the lead up to this specialAlpengaudi.Keep tripping the light fantastic!Julianne Pulver18

Mandolin Orchestra Group ReportAs we approach the end of an unusuallybusy year for the Orchestra, weare preparing our final concert to beheld at the Club on Sunday 4 th Novemberat 3 PM in the EdelweissRoom. This concert will have a few significantaspects to it. First it will be the finalconcert with Robert as conductor. Heis stepping aside after 14 years at thehelm to allow Ana Milas to come inand wave the baton. Robert will excusehimself and join the ranks ofplayers to see what it looks like fromtheir perspective. The music program has a seriousGerman bent in that the main chosenpieces are all German composerswho have specialised in writing for theplucked string family. We are engaging ayoung soloist AllisonJacobs to play Wolki’sConcerto for Oboe andOrchestra to concludethe program. So thisshould be an afternoonnot to be missed. The Orchestra will finish the yearwith a Wednesday night Wind-upevening on 12 th December andhave invited the WA Youth MandolinOrchestra to present somenew music for their entertainment. The photo shows two youngplayers who travelled all the wayfrom port Hedland to attend ourbig Mandolin Festival in July.
