ADMISSION TO THE TEACHER PREPARATION PROGRAM<br />
<strong>Undergraduate</strong> and graduate students pursuing licensure must be formally accepted into the Teacher Preparation Program.<br />
Application for admission to the program should be made during the semester the student expects to complete all the pre-professional<br />
requirements listed below (usually at the end of the sophomore year).<br />
The deadline for application to the Teacher Preparation Program is the end of the third week of the semester (Fall, Spring, Summer<br />
II) in which requirements will be completed. Acceptance into the program is a prerequisite for enrollment in higher-level (300-400)<br />
Education courses, including Pre-Student Teaching and Student Teaching.<br />
Option I (proficiency fulfilled by placement test or completion of course, grade of B- or better)<br />
• ENG 102 Reading and Writing Connections or<br />
• ENG 103H Honors Reading and Writing Connections or<br />
• ENG 230 Literacy: Form and Function or<br />
• ENG 325 The English Language and<br />
• MATH 1<strong>07</strong> or higher<br />
Option II (does not satisfy degree requirements)<br />
• Praxis I Reading (minimum score of 173)<br />
• Praxis I Mathematics (minimum score of 172)<br />
• Praxis I Writing (minimum score of 172)<br />
Education Courses (minimum grade of B-)<br />
• EDUC 1<strong>07</strong> School and Society<br />
• EDUC 206 Individuals with Exceptionalities<br />
• EDUC 208 Instructional Technology<br />
• ECE 213; EDUC 263; MCE 223; AYA 233 Educational Psychology<br />
(psychology course appropriate to licensure program)<br />
Developmental Portfolio<br />
• Advisor Review minimum rating of 2 (of 3)<br />
• Essay Review minimum rating of 2 (of 3)<br />

• Iowa Tests of Education Development (must pass all three tests)<br />

• BCII Background Check (no record of arrest for those offenses that would preclude licensure)<br />
• Completion of 49 semester hours<br />
• Overall cumulative grade point average of 2.7<br />
• Professional education and curriculum content grade point average of 2.7<br />
• Affidavit of Good Moral Character form on file<br />
• Career Objectives on file<br />
• Three <strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> faculty recommendations (two of which must be<br />
Division of Education faculty)<br />
Additional Requirements For LEAD Students<br />
• Acceptance into the M.A. in Ed. Program<br />
• Cumulative G.P.A of 3.0<br />
• Professional education & curriculum content G.P.A. of 3.0<br />
• Praxis II content scores on file<br />
