GENERAL INFORMATION<br />
The Philosophy & Mission<br />
<strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> is an independent, coeducational Catholic, liberal arts and sciences institution. Founded by the<br />
Brothers of Christian Instruction, <strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> is dedicated to educating its students to become leaders in service<br />
to others through a values-based education with an international perspective in the Judeo-Christian tradition.<br />
<strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> believes in the desirability of a small university that promotes academic excellence, a diverse community,<br />
and close student-teacher interaction.<br />
The <strong>University</strong> provides its students a higher education that fosters critical thinking, effective communication, spiritual<br />
growth, and personal, professional, and cultural development. <strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> encourages individuals to act in accordance<br />
with reason guided by the example and teachings of Jesus Christ.<br />
ACADEMIC PROGRAMS<br />
<strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> confers the following degrees: Master of Arts (M.A.); Master of Science in Physical Therapy (M.S.); Master of Arts in<br />
Business Administration (M.B.A.); Bachelor of Arts (B.A.); Bachelor of Science (B.S.); Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S. in Ed.);<br />
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.); Associate of Arts (A.A.); and Associate of Science in Computer Science (A.S.C.S.).<br />
LOCATION<br />
<strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> is located in North Canton, five miles north of Canton, in northeastern Ohio. Akron is 20 miles away, and both<br />
Cleveland and Youngstown are within an hour’s drive.<br />
Canton is an urban and diversified industrial center with a population of about 84,000. The city offers a variety of opportunities for<br />
cultural and recreational activities, entertainment, sports, dining and shopping. Cultural opportunities in the Canton area include a<br />
symphony orchestra, art gallery, theater, ballet, civic opera and lecture series. Canton also is home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.<br />
Canton is served through Akron-Canton Regional Airport by major and feeder airlines. Interstate 77 runs north-south and U.S. Route<br />
30 runs east-west through Canton. I-76 and I-80 are north of the city and I-71 is west. Amtrack trains and Greyhound buses also<br />
serve the area.<br />
<strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> also conducts classes at three off-campus locations for the School for Professional Studies Program. The locations are<br />
near I-77 on Arlington Road in Akron and near I-71 on Route 18 in Medina and at the Ursuline Center/Canfield in the Mahoning Valley.<br />
FACULTY<br />
<strong>Walsh</strong> has 90 full-time instructional faculty and about 80 adjunct faculty members. The student-faculty ratio is 12:1. 74% of the<br />
full-time faculty members hold Ph.D.s or terminal degrees in their respective fields.<br />
THE CAMPUS<br />
<strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> has 18 major buildings on its 140-acre campus (map on page 166).<br />
FARRELL HALL (1960) is the main classroom building and administrative center. It houses the Library, student radio station, printing<br />
services, and the Student Service Center (Financial Aid, Registrar and Business Services). Offices in Farrell Hall include those<br />
of the President, Academic Affairs, Finance, Development, Alumni, Enrollment Management, and Admissions. The Writing and<br />
Learning Resource Centers are located on the second floor (FH209). The Eastgate parking lot is adjacent to Farrell Hall.<br />
THE BROTHER EDMOND DROUIN LIBRARY The library’s catalogs provide access from anywhere to materials in the library’s collection,<br />
throughout Ohio via OhioLINK and outside the state in the 40,000 member libraries of WorldCat. Students use more than<br />
160 online databases covering dozens of academic fields and multiple formats. Often these materials are available for immediate<br />
retrieval or rapid delivery from an online request.<br />
Librarians offer assistance with the research process and the intricacies of database searching and finding materials in business, the<br />
sciences, humanities, social sciences, health sciences, education, the arts and areas of general interest.<br />
The collection on-site includes over 138,000 volumes, 450 current periodical subscriptions on paper, a curriculum library of teach-<br />
