SERVICE LEARNING APPLICATIONS
Service Learning is defined by the American Association of Higher Education as a method under which students learn and develop
through thoughtfully organized service that:
• Is coordinated in and meets the needs of a community
• Is coordinated with an institution of higher learning is integrated into and enhances the
academic curriculum
• Includes structured time for students to reflect on the service experience
• Helps foster civic responsibility
Students will find invariably that Service Learning components will be built into some of the courses for their designated major,
some of the Tier I and possibly even Tier II courses. With so much built in exposure, it is believed that students will develop a
deep and abiding understanding and appreciation of Service Learning as an educational process. (Courses will be announced at a
later date.)
