THEO 206 Christian Lifestyle and Spirituality 3 sem. hrs. Study of the options for Christian vocation and the lifestyles and spiritualities appropriate to them. Special attention to Christian marriage. Next offered SP-07, SP-08. THEO 207 African-American Religion 3 sem. hrs. The tradition of African thought is at least as old as Plato (spent 13 years in Egypt) and Augustine of Libya. The course will consider this tradition up to and including African-American thought: Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Angela Davis, Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. DuBois, M.L. King, Jr. and others. Next offered SP-07. THEO 211 Judaism: From Abraham 3 sem. hrs. to Maimonides. (See Jewish Studies 211) An understanding of the trends in Jewish life with emphasis on beliefs, observances, practices, rituals, and texts. Course points out Jewish roots of Christianity and includes descriptive visit to a synagogue. Next offered SP-08. THEO 271 Catholic Belief and Practice 3 sem. hrs. This survey of theology will enable students to appreciate the unique Catholic identity of Christian faith. Its purpose is to introduce students to the field of theology as a critical reflection on the religious dimensions of human experience providing the student with the ability to distinguish those principles and characteristics that form the distinctive traditions of the Church. The course will look at the object of the study, God, in light of both the historical tradition through which God is celebrated and remembered, and the experiential component that undergirds theology and links revelation with the community's attempt to speak critically. As such, we will explore the nature of religion, theology and faith and their relationship to human experience and how Catholicism has responded in its understanding and practice about that revelation. There is no prerequisite. Next offered TBA. THEO 274 Sacraments 3 sem. hrs. This course examines sacraments within the context of the Sacramental/Incarnational view of the relationship between humanity and God that is characteristic of the Catholic vision. The theological, historical, and pastoral dimensions of sacraments will be included to conceptualize contemporary issues in sacramental practices. THEO 301 Holocaust Studies 3 sem. hrs. An interdisciplinary investigation of the Holocaust. Selected topics include, but are not limited, to sociocultural, technological, psychological, philosophical and theological issues. Students will also study the Holocaust’s consequences and humanitarian efforts to seek justice. THEO 302 Liturgy and Sacraments 3 sem. hrs. Study of the human's relationship to God through public symbols. Christian liturgy and sacraments are studied as actions of the Church. Offered every semester. THEO 308 Development of Christian 3 sem. hrs. Thought The historical nature and development of Christian theology in the post-New Testament period. Representative issues and theologians are studied in order to understand and appreciate the gradual, complex, and rich unfolding of the Christian heritage. Next offered TBA. THEO 309 Principles of Justice and Peace3 sem. hrs. Consideration of justice and peace as principles of the Gospel, reflected in the tradition of Catholic social teaching and applied to the contemporary world. Next offered F-07. THEO 408 Seminar: Selected Topics 3 sem. hrs. in Theology Intensive examination of a selected topic (to be announced prior to registration) in theology such as an issue in liberation or feminist theology. Emphasis on individual investigation and discussion of the results of that research. Course may be taken more than once if the topic is different. Next offered SP-07. THEO 409 Seminar: Selected 3 sem. hrs. Theologians In-depth study of a particular theologian (to be announced prior to registration) with emphasis on individual investigation and discussion of the results of that research. Course may be taken more than once if the person studied is different. THEO 490 Readings and Research in Theology 3 sem. hrs.
