Systems (DSS)<br />
This course is designed to present perceptive concepts used in decision<br />
making in a quantitative, effective, and systematic way, utilizing<br />
the available technology to model, analyze, and graphically present<br />
the process. Also, this course provides an examination of the role of<br />
technology and information systems in the decision making process.<br />
The main focus of the course is decision support systems and the<br />
techniques used, such as simulation, artificial intelligence, expert<br />
systems, data warehousing, data mining, and what-if analysis.<br />
Prerequisite: BUS 327; Junior status or permission of the instructor.<br />

BUS 334 Cost Accounting I 3 sem. hrs.<br />
An introduction to the uses of cost accounting data to assist management<br />
in making decisions and in establishing policies of operations.<br />
Study included job, process, and activity-based costing systems, cost<br />
behavior patterns, cost-volume-profit relationships, budgeting and<br />
responsibility accounting. Prerequisite: BUS 102 with a grade of C<br />
or better. Offered every fall semester.<br />
BUS 335 Cost Accounting II 3 sem. hrs.<br />
A continuation of BUS 334 emphasizing the uses of accounting data<br />
in assisting management in making decisions and establishing policies<br />
of operations. Study includes standard costs, flexible budgets<br />
and analysis of cost variances, inventory costing, relevance in decision<br />
making, alternative cost allocation methods, pricing and profitability<br />
decisions, and capital budgeting. Prerequisite: BUS 334.<br />

Marketing<br />
The purpose of this course is to examine the Internet as an alternative<br />
method of communicating to markets, whether as a retailer, advertiser<br />
or service provider. Although in its infancy, the Internet is giving<br />
consumers new definitions of convenience, quality and security.<br />
These issues, as well as traditional marketing issues, applied to the<br />
Internet, will be the focus of this course. Prerequisite: BUS 216.<br />

BUS 340 Institutional Environment 3 sem. hrs.<br />
of Business<br />
An introduction to the legal and institutional environment of business<br />
in the United States including key aspects of business law (uniform<br />
commercial code, agency, contracts, negotiable instruments); legal<br />
forms of business; structure and impact of government regulation;<br />
and impact of external forces/organizations such as employee labor<br />
laws/protection, antitrust laws, consumer and environmental organizations.<br />
Prerequisites: BUS 101, ECON 202. Offered fall and spring<br />
semesters.<br />
BUS 385 Business Internship 2-9 sem. hrs.<br />
Supervised work experience which permits the student to link theory<br />
with current business practices. Student interns receive practical<br />
learning experience outside the academic setting by becoming<br />
involved in day-to-day operations of a business. An on-the-job supervisor<br />
and a faculty member monitor and assess intern performance.<br />

BUS 404 Advanced HR Management 3 sem. hrs.<br />
Focuses on the theory and practice relevant to the recent developments<br />
in compensation systems, employee benefits, labor relations<br />
philosophies and approaches, and employment law. Prerequisites:<br />
BUS 318 and BUS 319. Offered fall semester.<br />
BUS 405 Advanced Business 3 sem. hrs.<br />
Finance I<br />
(Formerly BUS 305) Advanced study of the theory of finance and<br />
how the theory is applied in corporate decision-making. Topics<br />
include: advanced time value of money concepts; the relationship<br />
between risk, return and value; financial statement analysis; financial<br />
forecasting, planning and control; working capital policy; cash and<br />
credit management; sources and uses of short-term funds. The course<br />
uses the case analysis approach. Prerequisite: BUS 221. Offered<br />
every fall semester.<br />
BUS 406 Advanced Business 3 sem. hrs.<br />
Finance II<br />
(Formerly BUS 306) Continuation of BUS 405. Topics include:<br />
advanced capital budgeting techniques; cash flow estimation; cost of<br />
capital estimation; capital structure and leverage; dividend policy<br />
and its relationship to value; strategic financing decisions relative to<br />
common stock, long-term debt and hybrid sources of funds. The<br />
course uses the case analysis approach. Prerequisite: BUS 221.<br />
Offered every spring semester.<br />
BUS 416 Marketing Strategy 3 sem. hrs.<br />
Integrative course in marketing with emphasis on strategic management<br />
decision-making as it relates to the marketing management of<br />
firms selling to consumers, business organizations, government<br />
agencies, or institutions. Topics include organization, planning,<br />
research, merchandising, sales, promotion, marketing channels, and<br />
control as related to corporate policies and objectives. Prerequisites:<br />
BUS 311. Offered spring semester.<br />
BUS 417 Operations Management 3 sem. hrs.<br />
Overview of the managerial process by which goods and services are<br />
supplied, produced, and distributed by organizations. Emphasis on<br />
decision making models used in management of production and<br />
material plan systems. Prerequisites: BUS 320. Offered spring<br />
semester.<br />
BUS 418 Team Management 3 sem. hrs.<br />
and Leadership Seminar<br />
Senior seminar designed to examine and evaluate existing theories of<br />
leadership and of team processes and to survey new developments in<br />
the field. The course utilizes a workshop setting to develop each student's<br />
leadership and team management skills and abilities.<br />
Prerequisite: BUS 319. Offered spring semester.<br />
BUS 423 Federal Tax I 3 sem. hrs.<br />
Study of federal tax law as it applies to the individual. Topics include:<br />
income and exclusion, deductions, losses, credits and property transactions.<br />
Prerequisite: BUS 102. Offered fall semester.
