It's beyond me why these people would allow themselves<br />

to be misled by fanatics like Harry Edwards and H. Rap<br />

Brown. These athletes are seen by millions of people on<br />

nation-wide and world-wide television, they have firststring-starting<br />

assignments at white schools, and they are<br />

invited to all the big athletic events. Why our Niggers right<br />

here at the <strong>University</strong> have never had it so good.<br />

T his statement was made by the Director of Intercollegiate<br />

Athletics at one of America's major universities,<br />

later to be "white-listed" by the Olympic Committee for<br />

Human Rights during the Spring, 1968, track and field<br />

season. He was speaking to the sports editor of one of<br />

America's leading weekly news magazines. His remarks<br />

are typical of the sentiment of many of the athletic<br />
