55Appendix to Annex EProvision <strong>of</strong> ServicesAs the following makes clear, Chaplaincy is positioned withinStudent Services but its remit <strong>and</strong> its work extends beyond it.1. Pastoral carea) Personal support to students <strong>and</strong> staff:• being available at set times for part <strong>of</strong> each weekday in termtime• providing an on-call service out <strong>of</strong> hours <strong>and</strong> in vacations• providing hospitality to groups <strong>and</strong> individuals as appropriate• making <strong>and</strong> receiving referrals to <strong>and</strong> from other services.b) Crisis <strong>and</strong> bereavement care in line with universityprocedures:• <strong>of</strong>fering support• making home visits when appropriate• making hospital visits when requested• arranging special services when requested• participating in Crisis Management Group.c) International student care <strong>and</strong> support:(The team has a member with special responsibility for this inaddition to it being a general responsibility <strong>of</strong> all chaplains.)• all services listed under 1a)• being available at a set time each week• convening <strong>and</strong> servicing a specialist group <strong>of</strong> those working withinternational students• leading study <strong>and</strong> discussion groups as requested• <strong>of</strong>fering hospitality• organising visits• being alert to particular needs arising from events in countriesfrom which students come <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong>fering support at these times.2. Spiritualitya) Inter-faith work:• liaising between faith groups <strong>and</strong> fostering mutual respect <strong>and</strong>underst<strong>and</strong>ing• maintaining good communications between faith representatives• providing information about all faith communities as needed• organising opportunities for discussions <strong>and</strong> joint action.b) Worship <strong>and</strong> other events:• providing regular opportunities for worship, study <strong>and</strong> prayer• organising religious services to mark special events• providing opportunities for silence, space, reflection.c) Spiritual development:• accompanying those who are exploring questions <strong>of</strong> faith <strong>and</strong>spirituality• giving informal support to student societies• praying <strong>and</strong> leading prayers• responding to requests to be involved in teaching or thedevelopment <strong>of</strong> course materials• advising staff if concerns arise around ‘cult’ activities.3. Ethics• participating in debate about values in <strong>further</strong> <strong>education</strong>• contributing to discussion <strong>of</strong> ethical <strong>and</strong> social justice issues in avariety <strong>of</strong> forums• responding to requests to be involved in teaching ordevelopment <strong>of</strong> course materials• arranging occasional lectures, meetings, enrichment visits <strong>and</strong>other activities.4. Community Building• developing opportunities for networking with local faithcommunities• <strong>of</strong>fering occasional workshops through staff developmentprogramme• strengthening public awareness <strong>of</strong> the college <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>further</strong><strong>education</strong> opportunities in local faith communities <strong>and</strong> viceversa.
