53Annex E:Example of a Service Level Agreementbetween a Chaplaincy Team and a CollegePurpose of this agreementThe college recognises and affirms the value of the faith traditionsof its staff and students and seeks to work in partnership with faithcommunities to offer support and care for the whole collegecommunity.To this end the college currently recognises an Islamicadviser, a Jewish chaplain and an Ecumenical Chaplaincy Team, whowork under the auspices of the Student Services Department.Thecollege will continue to seek representatives from other faithtraditions that are represented in the area.The faith communities recognise the value of higher education assomething that contributes both to self-development and thedevelopment of communities.The faith communities also recognisethe role the college plays in the city and the wider region.Historically this recognition has had practical expression in thecommitment by some faith communities to work in partnershipwith the college by designating chaplains and, in one case,supporting them financially.These chaplains are independent of thecollege but work within college guidelines and policies.They alsowork together whilst recognising and respecting diverse traditions.The Ecumenical Chaplaincy Team provides services that areavailable to all members of the college. It serves all college sites,working as one team with separate provision on two main sites.Provision of ServicesThe Ecumenical Chaplaincy Team offers its services to students andto staff.These services can be grouped into four areas. For a full listof the services provided within each of these areas see theAppendix to this Annex.Pastoral care• personal support• crisis and bereavement care• international students.Spirituality• inter-faith work• worship and other religious events• spiritual development.Ethics• community building.This effective partnership has been established over many years.The purpose of this agreement is to build on and develop thispartnership by identifying the services provided by the chaplainsand the support provided by the college.
