53Annex E:Example <strong>of</strong> a Service Level Agreementbetween a Chaplaincy Team <strong>and</strong> a CollegePurpose <strong>of</strong> this agreementThe college recognises <strong>and</strong> affirms the value <strong>of</strong> the faith traditions<strong>of</strong> its staff <strong>and</strong> students <strong>and</strong> seeks to work in partnership with faithcommunities to <strong>of</strong>fer support <strong>and</strong> care for the whole collegecommunity.To this end the college currently recognises an Islamicadviser, a Jewish chaplain <strong>and</strong> an Ecumenical Chaplaincy Team, whowork under the auspices <strong>of</strong> the Student Services Department.Thecollege will continue to seek representatives from other faithtraditions that are represented in the area.The faith communities recognise the value <strong>of</strong> higher <strong>education</strong> assomething that contributes both to self-development <strong>and</strong> thedevelopment <strong>of</strong> communities.The faith communities also recognisethe role the college plays in the city <strong>and</strong> the wider region.Historically this recognition has had practical expression in thecommitment by some faith communities to work in partnershipwith the college by designating chaplains <strong>and</strong>, in one case,supporting them financially.These chaplains are independent <strong>of</strong> thecollege but work within college guidelines <strong>and</strong> policies.They alsowork together whilst recognising <strong>and</strong> respecting diverse traditions.The Ecumenical Chaplaincy Team provides services that areavailable to all members <strong>of</strong> the college. It serves all college sites,working as one team with separate provision on two main sites.Provision <strong>of</strong> ServicesThe Ecumenical Chaplaincy Team <strong>of</strong>fers its services to students <strong>and</strong>to staff.These services can be grouped into four areas. For a full list<strong>of</strong> the services provided within each <strong>of</strong> these areas see theAppendix to this Annex.Pastoral care• personal support• crisis <strong>and</strong> bereavement care• international students.Spirituality• inter-faith work• worship <strong>and</strong> other religious events• spiritual development.Ethics• community building.This effective partnership has been established over many years.The purpose <strong>of</strong> this agreement is to build on <strong>and</strong> develop thispartnership by identifying the services provided by the chaplains<strong>and</strong> the support provided by the college.
