03PrefaceThis Handbook has been developed on behalf of a Working Group(see Annex A) established by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC)and the National Ecumenical Agency in Further Education (NEAFE).The Working Group was chaired by Ruth Silver, Principal ofLewisham College, and the handbook was written and compiled byDr Helen Johnson of the School of Education, Kingston University.NEAFE is the national ecumenical forum for the encouragementof spiritual and moral values in further education (FE). Formed bythe sector and the Churches over 30 years ago, our vision for asafe, peaceful and tolerant world remains the same as that ofour founders.We seek to bring together all those involved in the learning andskills sector to work in partnership to further the spiritualdimension of lifelong learning.We work with people of all faithsand none.The NEAFE website is at: www.neafe.orgThe LSC exists to make England better skilled and morecompetitive. It seeks to improve the skills of England’s youngpeople and adults to ensure a workforce that is of world-classstandards.The LSC is responsible for planning and funding high-qualityvocational education and training for everyone.
