Brettspent many years with CSR and brings with him many years of industryknowledge. Other projects like, Ascot Quays,“The enthusiasm that theteam felt being involved inthis project was phenomenal. It is the sort of project thatour team and subcontractorswill be proud to tell theirgrandchildren about.”The finishing touches on therevamped WACA ground in EastPerth are complete, with the siteready well ahead of time for thestart of the Third Ashes Test onNovember 29th.More than 100 tonnes ofsteel, 42 truckloads of sand, 528truckloads of concrete and15,000 limestone masonryblocks were used in theconstruction of the grounds, overa period of 194 days.According to Gerry Forde,General Manager BGCConstruction, the project was awelcome challenge for theBlokpave and construction team, and one that they will be proudto put their name to.“The enthusiasm that theteam felt being involved in thisproject was phenomenal. It isthe sort of project that our teamand subcontractors will be proudto tell their grandchildren about, and the fact that all aspects ofthe project were completedahead of time and on budget, makes the whole experience asuccess,” he added.Cottesloe Medical Centre and St Stephens schools were also significantprojects completed during the year. The other area that should receive a mention is AGI’s InsulationBusiness. Whilst it is often overshadowed by the Plasterboard/Ceilingsbusiness, AGI Insulation is a key player in the Insulation Batts market.Again, AGI has enjoyed working with key residential builders this yearand hopes to expand its presence into the retail and regional markets. Weencourage anyone pursuing Insulation Batts to contact us for a freemeasure and quote. Finally, AGI would like to thank all associated groups for there valuedbusiness during the year and wish all management and staff a safe andprosperous New Year.Stabilisation to BGC Asphalt and QuarriesOn 6th November 2002, BGC Stabilisation, formerly part of BGC Contracting, was officially re-classifiedas part of BGC Asphalt & Quarries.Historically BGC Stabilisation has derived most of its work from road pavement reconstruction for MainRoads WA. This pavement reconstruction often uses cement as a binding and strengthening agent, with thespecialized stabilising equipment mixing the cement into the existing road pavement materials.Whilst Main Roads WA has been a regular provider of work to BGC Contracting, pavementreconstruction works available for tender have all but disappeared. Government funding in this area hasbeen significantly reduced and this has resulted in a severe downturn in this type of work for BGCStabilisation. In contrast, BGC Asphalt & Quarries have experienced increasing demand from their existing clients forwork of this nature. This, and the fact that pavement reconstruction is often best performed in conjunctionwith road sealing works, were the main reasons behind the re-rationalisation.Anthony Kinder presents to his employeesThe staff of BGC Housingwas recently treated to abreakfast session in which apresentation by newly appointedGeneral Manager of Housing,Anthony Kinder outlined the‘Vision’ for the company.According to Mr Kinder, thevision to be Perth’s number onehome builder, was well and trulystated in front of the packedaudience of some 180 staffmembers.“As the country’s largesthomebuilders, it is crucial thatwe continually strive to improveour processes, design andcommunication channels to thebuying public. We aim to benumber one,” said Mr Kinder.“From initial strategysessions and interviews with staffand management, several keyareas were highlighted thatneeded attention in order for usto achieve our ‘Vision’.“To this end, each of the sixBGC Housing brands, StatesmanHomes, National Homes,StrataWise, Commodore Homes,West Australian Housing Centreand Go Homes, will operate asdiscrete operations interactingwith BGC Housing as theircentral core.“Each of the Housing brandsis to be managed by a BrandManager, responsible for thetotal customer communicationand delivery for that brand,” headded. As part of this visionprogram, each of the BGCHousing brands is aligned withspecifically targeted markets, andtherefore as a whole, the groupnow offers the complete range ofhousing products across theboard. The roll out of the newchanges commences initially inWest Perth where the threebrands, Commodore Homes,StrataWise and West AustralianNational Homes Campaigna winner at the PADCThe 13th annual Perth Advertising & Design Club Awards were heldthis year in spectacular style at the Perth Concert Hall, on SaturdayNovember 23.The Perth Advertising & Design Club (PADC) is Western Australia’speak body for creativity in advertising, graphic design and interactivemedia. Its most high-profile activity is the annual PADC Awards, whichare judged by some of the region’s finest creative practitioners, andannounced at a gala presentation. At this years awards the National Homes brand campaign, producedby Marketforce, won several awards:Bronze Award - Newspaper advertising non retailSilver Award - Newspaper campaignThe West Australian Fellowship - awarded by The West Australiannewspaper for outstanding creativity in press advertising.National Homes campaign also won a Bronze Award for photography.“National Homes would be the most highly awarded home buildingcompany in advertising. It is quite rare that a press campaign for abuilder would win the coveted West Australian Fellowship. Traditionallythis award is usually given to brands that advertise in the main section ofthe newspaper, not one who advertises in a particular section of thenewspaper” said Karen Della Torre of MarketforceBGC would like to congratulate National Homes and Market Forceon putting together this award winning campaign.Housing Centre have all beensplit into their own offices onseparate floors.Joining the team is TimUnderwood, appointed as BrandManager for the West AustralianHousing Centre. With more than 15 years inthe housing industry, Tim bringsa wealth of experience to theBGC housing stable. Most recently, Tim was apartner with Renowned Homes, however the opportunity to workwith a large company such asBGC was a lure too attractive torefuse.“Since starting with BGC, Ihave enjoyed the challenge ofworking with a large buildinggroup – the support and feedbackfrom the staff has been excellent. With the establishment of WAHCbecoming a brand in it’s ownright, the future prospects areboth challenging and exciting,”said Mr Underwood.Mr Kinder welcomed therenewed teamwork that hademanated from the managementteam and that subsequent reviewsessions indicated the roll outplan was being well received byall staff members.“The introduction of the‘Vision’ for the BGC Housinggroup has also allowed focus onour growth potential and for thefirst time, we have had our seniormanagement team workingtowards single goals andcommunicating about bestpractice” Mr Kinder said.In closing the presentation tothe staff, Mr Kinder asked allpresent to imagine what it wouldfeel like working in the leadingorganisation and then “be brave, work towards a common goaland take all the opportunitiesthat only a company as large asBGC can offer”.“This undertaking representsa significant investment for BGCboth in human and financialresources. We are firmlycommitteed to the success of thisventure and becoming Perth’snumber one homebuilder again.”4B U I L D I N G S U C C E S S A very happy and safe Christmas from BGC5
