The <strong>Champion</strong> • Wednesday 9 January 2013Consultationon proposedchanges tolibrary servicedraws to closeby Natasha YoungSEFTON residents have untilMonday (January 14) to havetheir say on proposed changes tothe library service in the borough.The council is calling forresidents’ views on draftproposals and a range ofmitigating measures as well aspotential new ways of deliveringthe service.No final decision has been takenat this stage, but last Octobercabinet members agreed forfurther consultation to go aheadon an option which would see justsix of the Sefton’s 13 librariesremain in place in the borough.They would be located in thearea’s five main towns – Bootle,Crosby, Formby, Maghull andSouthport – along with a‘co–located’ library in the newNetherton Activity Centre leisurefacility.Under the draft proposal, thelibraries could be complementedby improved opening hours,extensive collections, improved...but there’s stilltime for people tohave their say’ICT facilities and outreachservices. Councillor Peter Dowd,leader of Sefton Council, said:“There is still time for people tohave their say and we havealways said we will take all viewson board before making any finaldecisions.“These are unprecedented timesfor the council and we take nopleasure from being in a positionwhere we have to make furthermassive savings of more than£43m over the next two years.“But no final decisions havebeen made on libraries and Iwould urge people to fill in thenew questionnaire before theclosing date on January 14.”The consultation questionnaireis available at www.sefton.gov.uk/libraries.
