The Champion • Wednesday 9 January 2013SVisit us @ www.ChampNews.com • 11Urgent call toblood donorsacross SeftonAN urgent call has been madeto Sefton residents with theblood type O Rh negative(O–) to come forward to giveblood now following thefestive period.Following the recentoutbreak of norovirus, therehas been a dramatic increasein the number of peoplecancellingtheirappointments.According to the NHS,non–attendance by O–negdonors increased by 50% justbefore New Year.And although hospitalsacross the country haveincreased their stocks ofblood to cover the extendedholiday period, there hasbeen a recent high demandfor O– blood to meet patientneed, meaning stocks havefallen.Jon Latham, AssistantDirector of Marketing forNHS Blood and Transplant,said: “We would like to urgeall O– donors to walk intotheir most convenient donorsession to give blood to helpNorovirus outbreak takesits toll on appointmentsrebuild stock levels.
