Orchard, Executive Director of the <strong>American</strong><strong>Repertory</strong> Theatre (A.R.T.) present the third production of the A.R.T.’s 2005-06subscription season — Anton Chekhov’s great tragicomedy <strong>Three</strong> <strong>Sisters</strong>, in atranslation by Paul Schmidt, directed by the internationally revered Polish directorKrystian Lupa, in his first <strong>American</strong> production.Performances begin on Saturday, November 26 at the Loeb Drama Center, 64Brattle Street, Harvard Square in Cambridge, and run through Sunday, January 1, 2006.The production will be available for press viewing beginning Wednesday, November 30at 7:30pm.“Let’s pack our bags and go to Moscow; there’s no place like Moscow” pleadsIrina, the youngest sister. Her cry echoes throughout Anton Chekhov’s immortal play, amantra for the entire Prozorov family. Stuck in a small town in provincial Russia,spinster schoolmistress Olga, unhappily married Masha, idealistic Irina, and Andrei, thefailed scientist, yearn for better days. The Prozorovs long for love and happiness, theironly companions the soldiers stationed in the local garrison, a group of would-be poetsand philosophers. The family, forever aware of a better future just beyond reach, facesmarriage, birth, and death alike, constantly searching for answers to why we keep onliving. With this production of <strong>Three</strong> <strong>Sisters</strong> we welcome the Polish master-directorKrystian Lupa to the U.S. for the first time.The cast includes A.R.T company actors Thomas Derrah as Chebutykin, JeremyGeidt as Ferapont, Will LeBow as Kulygin, A.R.T. Institute graduate Molly Ward asMasha, and returning actor Sean Dugan as Andrei. They are joined by Jeff Biehl asTuzenbach, Julienne Hanzelka Kim as Natasha, Kelly McAndrew as Olga, ChrisMcKinney as Solyony, Sarah Grace Wilson as Irina, and Frank Wood as Vershinin.A.R.T. His productions are remarkable for their psychologicalcomplexity, stylistic innovation, and humanity. His recent productions include his ownadaptations of Thomas Bernhard’s Limeworks; Emmanuel Kant; Extinction; andRitter, Dene, Voss; Malte, or the Prodigal Son’s Triptych inspired by Rilke; HermannBroch’s trilogy The Sleepwalkers; Dostoyevsky’s Brother’s Karamazov; Bulgakov’sMaster and Margarita; Gorky’s Lower Depths; Musil’s Man Without Qualities;Nietzsche’s Zarathustra; Stanislaw Lem’s Solaris; and Unfinished Piece for an Actorwhich combines Chekhov’s Seagull with Yazmina Reza’s The Spanish Play.Additionally Lupa has directed several productions for Polish television, and is a residentdirector at the Stary Teatr in Krakow. He teaches directing at the National TheatreAcademy in Krakow. His published writings on the theatre include Utopia and ItsInhabitants and two volumes of his diaries, Labyrinth and Spying. Lupa’s productionshave been invited to the most significant theatre festivals of Europe, and he has beenrecognized with every major Polish theatre award as well as the Austrian Cross of Meritand the French Order of the Fine Arts and Humanities. In 2003 the Stary Teatr mounteda retrospective festival of five of Lupa’s stage productions.Jacek Ostaszewski is a renowned composer and musician in his nativePoland. He is a featured soloist in several films and with various orchestras onflute, recorder, bass, and sansa, and the founder of the world-music ensembleOsjan. He leads workshops at schools and at the <strong>Theater</strong> Acedemy in Krakow.As composer, he has to his credit around eighty plays (among which fifteen weredirected by Krystian Lupa.) He also created ballet music for Beth Soll DanceCompany; wrote music for three feature length and five short films, as well asfive television specials.Scott Zielinski designed lighting for A.R.T.’s Dido Queen of Carthage,Black Snow, Woyzeck, Peter Pan and Wendy. New York credits includeTopdog/Underdog (Broadway), Lincoln Center, Public <strong>Theater</strong>, <strong>Theater</strong> for aNew Audience, Manhattan <strong>Theater</strong> Club, Playwrights Horizons, New York<strong>Theater</strong> Workshop, Signature, and Classic Stage Company, among others. He hasalso designed extensively at regional theaters throughout the U.S. andinternationally.Resident Sound Designer David Remedios has created twenty-nine productionsfor the A.R.T., including Amerika, Olly’s Prison, Dido Queen of Carthage, TheProvok’d Wife (original music). Other credits include Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park,Dressed Up! Wigged Out! (original music and sound, Boston Playwrights Theatre),Emerson Stage, 92nd St. Y, Boston Theatre Works, New York Theatre Workshop, andVineyard Playhouse. The following is a list of clarifications for this project: General Info1. The project is an expansion of Panera’s kitchen into an adjacent kitchen space that hasbeen unused since Panera originally occupied this building. Was a previously a DisneyStore kitchen.2. The General Contractor with the lowest and best overall bid will be awarded this project.3. Included with this Invitation is a bid summary form, please submit your bid on thisform. This for owner qualification purposes.4. All work shall be performed during normal working hours unless otherwise noted.5. All General Building permits will be obtained by Breads of the World all otherassociated trade permits will be the responsibility of the General Contractor and theirassociated subcontractors.6. Building Owner / Breads of the World, LLC will be responsible for all tap fees.7. Construction will commence after written notification of Landlord turnover, contractorwill begin construction no later that 7 days from receipt of a written Notice to Proceed.8. This is NOT a prevailing Wage project. Please bid accordingly.9. Electrical contractor will purchase all lighting from Panera’s National account vendor .Quote Included with Bid Package.10. Prior to start of construction, the selected contractor will be provided withadequate sets of drawings that will read CONSTRUCTION SET – FINAL (YellowSet). These drawings will include all revisions to the Permit/Bid set addressingBuilding, Health, Fire Dept’s plan review comments & misc. Owner revisions. Theconstruction costs for these revisions will be negotiated with the selectedcontractor. It will be the contractor’s responsibility to distribute the FinalConstruction set of drawings to all of its subcontractors & vendors. Do not buildfrom the Permit/Bid set. Any errors in construction due to the use of any other setthan the Yellow Construction Final set will be the responsibility of the GC orassociated trade. Do not include construction plan costs in your bid proposals.11. Owner will carry builders risk insurance for the duration of the project. The amountinsured shall be the cost of the GC’s work plus $300,000. Owner will not be responsiblefor any lost or stolen items during construction.12.
