Every yeara considerable amount of electric energy could be saved if the drive systems were designedmore effectively with a view for energy savings. Electric motors are amongst those components,which can significantly contribute to these savings through efficiency improvement.European electric motor manufacturers are ready to take part in this process on a voluntarybasis, through improving the motor efficiency values and joining and supporting the marketingcampaign to promote high efficient motors.European electric motor manufactures through CEMEP (European Commission of ElectricMachinery and Power Electronics Manufacturers) and the European Commission agreed upon ageneral efficiency classification system, which enables all customers and users of electricmotors to carry out an easy efficiency evaluation of the electric motors they buy. There is astrong belief that the market economy mechanisms will result in transition towards higherefficiencies.The motors covered with this Agreement have been defined as Totally Enclosed Fan VentilatedThree-phase Squirrel-cage Electric Motors, 1.1kW to 90kW, 2pole and 4pole, wound for 400V50Hz supply, in standard execution. Standard execution may be interpreted as the N typeaccording to EN 60034-12 and HD 231 standards.Some electric motor manufacturers are introducing the efficiencies specified in the CEMEPAgreement into their standard production. The target for all participants is to transfer theEuropean market to High Efficient Electric Motors and to achieve electric energy saving. Thisshall be achieved through information regarding High Efficient Motors given to customers, andthrough more transparent motor efficiency assessment method, which is to result in subsequentdecrease of manufacture and sales of low efficient motors.Every manufacturer, importer or distributor, is welcome to take part in this process.The electric motors covered in the Agreement are classified into three groups in terms ofefficiency - eff3, eff2 and eff1. The efficiency classes eff3, eff2 and eff1 are defined in Annex 1.The efficiency class is to be marked on the motor rating plate with one of the following logos:The manufacturers of MEZ Electric Motors in compliance with the Agreement are preparingmodifications of their current range of electric motors, in order to comply with the efficiencyclass eff2.
