Your child is between 8 and12 years old and is learning French<strong>The</strong> <strong>DELF</strong> <strong>Prim</strong> will be their first diplomain French.<strong>The</strong> <strong>DELF</strong> <strong>Prim</strong> is a Diploma of French Language Studiesissued by the French Ministry of Education.<strong>The</strong> Centre international d’étu<strong>de</strong>s pédagogiques (CIEP),the public institute of this Ministry, manages thediploma’s teaching and administration.<strong>The</strong> <strong>DELF</strong> <strong>Prim</strong> is divi<strong>de</strong>d into 3 levels: A1.1, A1 and A2,corresponding to the Common European Framework ofReference for Languages (CEFR).<strong>DELF</strong> <strong>Prim</strong> <strong>DELF</strong> <strong>Prim</strong> <strong>DELF</strong> <strong>Prim</strong>A1.1 A1 A2Why should you suggest the <strong>DELF</strong><strong>Prim</strong> to your child?It is an opportunity for your child to <strong>de</strong>monstrate theirFrench language skills, to be rewar<strong>de</strong>d for their work atschool and to get used to sitting exams for certificatesfrom the beginning of their French studies.You can accompany your child’s progress and prepare yourchild for passing the different <strong>DELF</strong> levels throughoutschool.How does the examination takeplace?During the assessment, your child’s confi<strong>de</strong>nce isboosted.<strong>The</strong> support materials, with a strong focus on play, havebeen prepared by an illustrator of children’s books.<strong>The</strong> subjects approached relate to the child’s familiarenvironment, such as their family, leisure activities andschool.Your child’s teacher will be able to assess the level thatyour child can sit for, and will not put them in a situationwhere they will fail.<strong>The</strong> examination dayYour child will complete a collective assessment withan activities workbook in colour in which they willrespond to:Oral comprehension questions:Un<strong>de</strong>rstanding a simpleinstruction, an or<strong>de</strong>r,a <strong>de</strong>scription, numbers.Written expression questions:Writing personalinformation, completing asimple message or story.Written comprehension questions:Un<strong>de</strong>rstanding a simple instruction, ashort text, a message or a postcard.And an individual oral assessment, whichtakes a maximum of 15 minutes.Your child’s teacher will be able to tell you what levelyour child can enrol for.<strong>The</strong> child is then invited to speak abouther/himself, to tell a story based onpictures and/or to take part in a dialoguein a role play.
