In 2009-10, as shown in Figure 7, the average length of stay for any patients treated withinthe hospital network (excluding all same day patients) was 5.4 days. This is a marginaldecrease from 2008-09 when the average was 5.5 days. There are three types of treatment for people with end stage renal disease. Haemodialysisis the most common form of treatment in the Territory, followed by peritoneal dialysis andlastly transplantation. These lists aredynamic, with new patients continuously being added and others removed.In 2008, the Australian Government initiated an Elective Surgery Wait List (ESWL) ReductionPlan to address the number of overdue patients waiting on the ESWL. To date, the Territoryto people on the ESWL.
