Wh<strong>at</strong> is Legionella?<br />
Legionella and its origin:<br />
Legionella or Legionnaire‘s disease is a p<strong>at</strong>hogen discovered during an epidemic of<br />
chest infections which occurred <strong>at</strong> a meeting of veterans of <strong>the</strong> “American Legion“<br />
in 1976 in Philadelphia in <strong>the</strong> USA. Hundreds of participants were infected with <strong>the</strong><br />
rod-shaped bacterium. There were 34 f<strong>at</strong>alities.<br />
Legionnaires‘ disease. A serious infectious disease.<br />
Legionnaires‘ disease is a serious infectious disease of <strong>the</strong> lungs caused by <strong>the</strong><br />
Legionella bacterium. Without tre<strong>at</strong>ment with an effective antibiotic <strong>the</strong> disease<br />
leads to de<strong>at</strong>h in approxim<strong>at</strong>ely 20% of cases, especially in elderly people and<br />
those with weak immune systems.<br />
Incidence and increase:<br />
Legionella bacteria spread and increase predominantly in hot w<strong>at</strong>er <strong>at</strong> temper<strong>at</strong>ures<br />
between approxim<strong>at</strong>ely 30°C and 40°C, particularly in <strong>the</strong> hot w<strong>at</strong>er supply<br />
of e.g. hotels, swimming pools, schools or blocks of fl<strong>at</strong>s. However, humidifiers in<br />
working and living areas or even medical inhalers can also be a possible source of<br />
infection..<br />
!<br />

Brief explan<strong>at</strong>ion:<br />
Legionella is a disease p<strong>at</strong>hogen.<br />
Legionnaires‘ disease is a serious<br />
infectious disease of <strong>the</strong> lungs.<br />

increase predominantly in hot<br />
w<strong>at</strong>er <strong>at</strong> temper<strong>at</strong>ures between<br />
approxim<strong>at</strong>ely 30°C and 40°C, especially<br />
in <strong>the</strong> hot w<strong>at</strong>er supply.<br />
They are also found in all sorts<br />
of technical install<strong>at</strong>ions in <strong>the</strong><br />
home where <strong>the</strong>y can be introduced<br />
via <strong>the</strong> direct w<strong>at</strong>er supply.<br />
Bre<strong>at</strong>hing in fine sprays loaded<br />
with Legionella, which may be<br />
taken into <strong>the</strong> lungs in showers<br />
and b<strong>at</strong>hs, when cleaning <strong>the</strong><br />
teeth or during o<strong>the</strong>r daily care<br />
of <strong>the</strong> body, can be dangerous to<br />
health.<br />
!<br />
Legionella in your hot w<strong>at</strong>er!<br />
Legionella pneumophila is in all drinking w<strong>at</strong>er systems:<br />
Legionella is a bacterium th<strong>at</strong> occurs in both ground w<strong>at</strong>er and surface w<strong>at</strong>er. It<br />
can also be found in all sorts of technical install<strong>at</strong>ions in <strong>the</strong> home it can be introduced<br />
via <strong>the</strong> direct w<strong>at</strong>er supply.<br />
Microscopic imaging and biological test procedures prove <strong>the</strong> existence of <strong>the</strong> p<strong>at</strong>hogen<br />
“Legionella pneumophila“ in all <strong>the</strong> drinking w<strong>at</strong>er systems of <strong>the</strong> world.<br />
It has been established th<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> biggest popul<strong>at</strong>ion of <strong>the</strong> bacterium is to be found<br />
<strong>at</strong> temper<strong>at</strong>ures between 30°C and 40°C, which is <strong>the</strong> range of temper<strong>at</strong>ures th<strong>at</strong><br />
human beings find most com<strong>for</strong>table <strong>for</strong> showering. A single Legionella bacterium<br />
can increase to hundreds of thousands within three days under <strong>the</strong>se conditions.<br />
The hot w<strong>at</strong>er tank is <strong>the</strong> danger zone:<br />
The w<strong>at</strong>er supplied by <strong>the</strong> w<strong>at</strong>erworks is hygienically fresh. The growth of <strong>the</strong> feared<br />
Legionella colonies first occurs in hot w<strong>at</strong>er systems, where <strong>the</strong> w<strong>at</strong>er often<br />
stands in <strong>the</strong> hot w<strong>at</strong>er storage tank <strong>for</strong> weeks, offering an additional breeding<br />
ground <strong>for</strong> Legionella and o<strong>the</strong>r bacteria..
Hygienik.<br />
Contamin<strong>at</strong>ed hot w<strong>at</strong>er storage tanks ...<br />
The images show <strong>the</strong> interior of various hot w<strong>at</strong>er storage tanks in homes, hotels<br />
and swimming pools. Or even in your house? Have you ever thought wh<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
inside of your hot w<strong>at</strong>er storage tank looks like?<br />
Are you sure th<strong>at</strong> it is not infected with Legionella?<br />
The danger is particularly gre<strong>at</strong> in all hot w<strong>at</strong>er install<strong>at</strong>ions with a storage tank<br />
with no flowing w<strong>at</strong>er to prevent <strong>the</strong> increase of Legionella.<br />
The problem is even more significant with <strong>for</strong> example unoccupied hotel<br />
rooms, sports facilities, old people‘s homes, hospitals, sometimes<br />
public indoor and outdoor swimming pools or schools and<br />
last but not least all family homes or unused fl<strong>at</strong>s and camp sites,<br />
where w<strong>at</strong>er remains in <strong>the</strong> hot w<strong>at</strong>er storage tank <strong>for</strong> lengthy periods and is not<br />
replaced with fresh w<strong>at</strong>er..<br />
When one of our customers saw <strong>the</strong> contamin<strong>at</strong>ed storage tank, he was horrified and said:<br />
“It is incredible th<strong>at</strong> we clean our teeth with this every day …!“<br />
!<br />
Where does<br />
Legionella come<br />
from?<br />
Sludge and dirt accumul<strong>at</strong>e <strong>at</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> very bottom of a<br />
conventional hot w<strong>at</strong>er storage<br />
tank.<br />
This is <strong>the</strong> ideal breeding ground<br />
<strong>for</strong> bacteria.<br />
A w<strong>at</strong>er temper<strong>at</strong>ure of<br />
30°C - 40°C is ideal <strong>for</strong><br />
Legionella, which can reproduce<br />
over and over again in a flash,<br />
and can be a danger to health<br />
every time th<strong>at</strong> w<strong>at</strong>er is used on<br />
a daily basis.<br />
It is extremely dangerous if <strong>the</strong>se<br />
are <strong>the</strong>n inhaled in <strong>the</strong> tiny<br />
droplets of a fine spray or mist!<br />

The offers <strong>the</strong> solution to <strong>the</strong> problem.<br />
The highly efficient technology bypasses <strong>the</strong> sources of<br />
danger!<br />
Legionella origin<strong>at</strong>es in <strong>the</strong> sludge and standing w<strong>at</strong>er in <strong>the</strong> storage tank. Th<strong>at</strong><br />
is precisely where <strong>the</strong> new hygiene technology easily and efficiently bypasses <strong>the</strong><br />
source of danger.<br />
With you always get fresh hot w<strong>at</strong>er, uncontamin<strong>at</strong>ed with Legionella.<br />
People <strong>at</strong> risk. Installing <strong>the</strong> equipment:<br />
It is particularly recommended th<strong>at</strong> equipment such as <strong>the</strong> is installed<br />
<strong>for</strong> elderly people, small children, smokers and those who have recently undergone<br />
surgery. It is also recommended <strong>for</strong> endurance <strong>at</strong>hletes who shower with<br />
a weakened immune system, diabetics, <strong>the</strong> chronically ill, people whose immune<br />
systems have been weakened by cortisone, cytost<strong>at</strong>ics or radi<strong>at</strong>ion, alcoholics, AIDS<br />
p<strong>at</strong>ients, people with pneumoconiosis and p<strong>at</strong>ients with burns and open wounds.<br />
Responsibility:<br />
In contrast to most o<strong>the</strong>r diseases, <strong>the</strong> owners of public and industrial buildings<br />
are legally responsible <strong>for</strong> Legionnaires’ disease. They should <strong>the</strong>re<strong>for</strong>e take “Legionella“<br />
seriously and do something to prevent it, both <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> sake of your health<br />
and <strong>for</strong> legal reasons..

The fresh w<strong>at</strong>er principle<br />
from IDM:<br />
The drinking w<strong>at</strong>er runs over a<br />
large surface stainless steel he<strong>at</strong><br />
exchanger only when <strong>the</strong> hot<br />
w<strong>at</strong>er tap is turned on and is he<strong>at</strong>ed<br />
up by <strong>the</strong> he<strong>at</strong> from <strong>the</strong> hot<br />
w<strong>at</strong>er buffer storage tank within<br />
seconds, so th<strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> hot w<strong>at</strong>er is<br />
always fresh. The only w<strong>at</strong>er in<br />
<strong>the</strong> storage tank is <strong>for</strong> he<strong>at</strong>ing,<br />
and this is pumped round to <strong>the</strong><br />
he<strong>at</strong> exchanger when <strong>the</strong> tap is<br />
turned on.<br />
It is <strong>the</strong>re<strong>for</strong>e only he<strong>at</strong> th<strong>at</strong> is<br />
stored in <strong>the</strong> he<strong>at</strong> buffer, and<br />
not <strong>the</strong> hot w<strong>at</strong>er..<br />

The revolutions of <strong>the</strong> circul<strong>at</strong>ing<br />

on <strong>the</strong> quantity drawn off<br />
when <strong>the</strong> tap is turned on..<br />
IDM He<strong>at</strong> Exchange St<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
The IDM he<strong>at</strong> exchange st<strong>at</strong>ion can<br />
also be built onto an existing he<strong>at</strong><br />
storage system.<br />
This means:<br />
• old install<strong>at</strong>ions can be<br />
modernised<br />
• special storage tanks (<strong>for</strong> solar<br />
he<strong>at</strong>ing, district he<strong>at</strong>ing, block<br />
he<strong>at</strong>ing gener<strong>at</strong>ors and similar)<br />
can be equipped with fresh w<strong>at</strong>er<br />
technology<br />
• larger install<strong>at</strong>ions can be carried<br />
out (with several he<strong>at</strong> exchanger<br />
st<strong>at</strong>ions)<br />
There are he<strong>at</strong> exchanger st<strong>at</strong>ions<br />
with tap capacity from 25 litres/min<br />
to 70 litres/min..<br />
