It was also raised during <strong>the</strong> <strong>Panel</strong>’s consultation phase.<strong>The</strong> <strong>Act</strong>s provide for terms up <strong>to</strong> 5 years. Members may be reappointed.<strong>The</strong> legislation in o<strong>the</strong>r jurisdictions provides for terms <strong>of</strong> 1 up <strong>to</strong> 5 years; most providefor reappointment <strong>of</strong> members, and two jurisdictions specify <strong>the</strong> maximum length <strong>of</strong>service.<strong>The</strong> majority <strong>of</strong> respondents <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Stakeholder Questionnaire thought <strong>the</strong> term formembers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>WCB</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>rs should be set in legislation, with approximatelyhalf suggesting 3 years.<strong>The</strong> <strong>Panel</strong> believes that <strong>the</strong> continuity and stability <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>WCB</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>rs needs<strong>to</strong> be balanced with <strong>the</strong> introduction <strong>of</strong> fresh ideas and leadership.Recommendations: 3.3.6 <strong>WCB</strong> Board Members’ Term <strong>of</strong> Office1. <strong>The</strong> legislation should be changed <strong>to</strong> appoint members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>WCB</strong> Board <strong>of</strong>Direc<strong>to</strong>rs for a term up <strong>to</strong> 3 years. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Panel</strong> urges <strong>the</strong> Minister <strong>to</strong> consider staggeredterms <strong>to</strong> provide continuity and stability on <strong>the</strong> <strong>WCB</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>rs.2. <strong>The</strong> legislation should be changed <strong>to</strong> enable <strong>the</strong> reappointment <strong>of</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>WCB</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> a maximum <strong>of</strong> 6 consecutive years <strong>of</strong> service.
