The WCB depends on the RCMP and Crown Prosecutor’s Office to lay charges and take to court anyone who does not follow the Acts.For example, an employer who lies to the WCB so they don’t have to pay assessments or a worker who lies to get higher compensation. Ithas been suggested that the WCB should be able to lay charges to take someone to court. In order to do this, someone within the WCBmust be appointed as a “peace officer.”A peace officer can lay charges, carry out warrants like search warrants, and give evidence in court.
