Media InformationThe Union College Sports InformationOffice provides complete information andmedia services regarding the institution’s23 intercollegiate sports. The department isresponsible for all public and media relationspertaining to athletics, athletic departmentpublications, the athletic department’s Internetweb site, statistical and historical recordkeeping for all sports and other promotionalactivities surrounding the athletic department.The Sports Information Office is located inRoom 107B in the Lakeside Athletic Building.A complete description of the servicesprovided by the Union College SportsInformation Office follows:Media Services and PoliciesINTERVIEWS - All interviews with UnionCollege coaches, student-athletes and staffmembers must be arranged through the SportsInformation Office. After games, matchesand other athletic events, locker rooms aregenerally off limits to members of the media.Player and coach interviews, however, may beconducted outside locker room entrances or onthe playing surface after a minimal, 10-minutecooling off period for participants.PRACTICES - Practices are generally opento members of the media. Prior knowledge ofattendance, however, is a much appreciatedgesture.GAME DAY COVERAGE AND PRESSPASSES - Any media member covering agame, match or other contest hosted by UnionCollege is asked to reserve a press credentialat least 24 hours prior to the event. While lastminute media are welcome, prior knowledgeof your arrival is much appreciated. To be added tothe primary media list, contact the SportsInformation Office.GAME PROGRAMS, GAME NOTESAND MEDIA INFORMATION - Pregameinformation may be obtained from the SportsInformation Office when available. If notes,programs, etc., are not available, the SportsInformation Office will assist members of theworking media in any way possible to ensureaccurate reporting.TECHNOLOGY - At most Union CollegeAthletic events, a general phone and faxline and photocopier will be made availableto members of the working media. Whenthose amenities are unavailable, the SportsInformation Director office or another officewill be made available before, during and afterevents.RADIO - Any visiting radio broadcastsmust reserve their seating and phone lines atleast two weeks in advance of the coveredevent. While late-comers are welcome, phonelines and seating can not be guaranteed. Forfootball and basketball, one analog phone linewill be reserved for visiting radio, whetherprevious arrangements have been made or not.PHOTOGRAPHERS - Photographers areasked to stay between the 30-yard line andthe end zone for football and in the respectiveend zones for basketball. He also served as amember of the gameday staff for the NAIAFootball National Championship Game in2006 and 2007.As Union’s SID, Stancil has had 11student-athletes earn CoSIDA AcademicAll-America District IV honors with fourreceiving CoSIDA Academic All-AmericaTeam honors.Stancil is a member of the NAIA-SIDA- the NAIA’s Sports Information DirectorsAssociation and College Sports InformationDirectors of America (CoSIDA).Also, Stancil served as the NAIA RegionXII Information Director from 2005-08 andis an At-Large Representative on the NAIA-SIDA Board of Directors.Stancil is married, and he and his wife,Genople, have two children - a son, Jayson,and a daughter, Haylee.Sports Information AssistantGene RenfroGene Renfro isbeginning his secondyear as the AssistantSports InformationDirector.Renfro, a native ofJohnson City, Tenn.,comes to Union afterserving six years in the Milligan (Tenn.)College sports information office.Among his responsibilities, Renfro willassist in media relations for all 23 of Union’sathletic programs as well as writing releases,compiling statistics, website maintenanceand producing and publishing media guides.Renfro earned his bachelor’s fromMilligan in 2005 and his master’s in sportsmanagement from East Tennessee StateUniveristy.Renfro is a member of both the NAIA-SIDA and CoSIDA.<strong>WWW</strong>.<strong>UC</strong><strong>BULLDOGS</strong>.<strong>COM</strong>Union College • 5
