Athletic Staff DirectoryBULLDOG BASKETBALLDIRECTOR OF ATHLETICSDARIN S. WILSONIn February of2003, Darin S. Wilsonwas named theDirector of Athleticsat Union College.Since becomingthe school’s Directorof Athletics, Wilsonhas been improving the college’s athleticfacilities such as a new press boxes atthe football and softball facilities, theinstallation of synthetic sports turf at Burch/Nau Field, remodeling of athletic trainingfacilities in Robsion Arena as well as severalother projects.Union has enjoyed unprecedentedsuccess on and off the field of play duringWilson’s tenure. Since taking the helm,the Union athletic department has won 17Applachian Athletic Conference regularseasonand tournament championships, threeMidwest Collegiate Cycling Conferencechampionships and six NAIA Region XIIchampionships. Additionally, 23 Bulldogand Lady Bulldogs teams have participatedin national championship tournaments andevents.Wilson was honored by the AppalachianAthletic Conference in 2008 as the league’sAthletic Director of the Year.In the classroom, Union has had 32NAIA Scholar-Athletes and four CoSIDAAcademic All-America Team members since2003.In addition, Wilson has revitalized andrevived once-dormant athletic programs.Cross country and men’s tennis werereinstated as sponsored sports in 2004-05,while women’s tennis, men’s and women’strack and field and men’s and women’sswimming returned for the 2005-06academic year. In 2008-09, bowling made aresurgence after a 30-year absence, givingUnion 23 intercollegiate programs.Prior to accepting the post, Wilson servedas the head baseball coach, sitting at thehelm of the Bulldogs for five seasons (1999-2003). During that span, Wilson posteda 161-106-1 record and was named theMid-South Conference Coach of the Year in2001.The Versailles, Ky., native originallyattended the University of Kentucky to playbaseball, but transferred to Union prior tothe 1994 season. As a senior, Wilson wasnamed the school’s Male Athlete of the Year.After graduating cum laude from Unionin 1996, Wilson joined the Bulldog baseballstaff as an assistant coach.Wilson and his wife, Patti, reside inBarbourville.
