In both industrialisedand emerging countries, BNP Paribas actively partnered with its clientsto move in this new direction. Against a backdrop of intense competitionand sharply contrasting commodity price movements – a fall in the firsthalf of the year was followed by a surge to record levels – BNP Paribaswas able to strengthen its leading global position in this sector.The financing of commodity flows was on par with the record levelsof 2006, with a strong rise in inventory financing and an expandingclient base.Structured financing of energy and commodities, which now encompassesall structured products in this sector (including project financing andpre-export financing), gained ground in the United States, Russiaand far eastern Europe, thanks in particular to acquisition financing.Specific measures were undertaken in <strong>2007</strong> to offer all bank clientsactive in the commodities sector a broader, more sophisticated rangeof dedicated products covering derivatives, capital markets and M&Aadvisory services.Asset Finance< Contents ><strong>2007</strong> was a banner year for asset financing with a sharp rise in netincome from aircraft and marine financing. The marine financing teamssuccessfully launched operations in China and India and strengthenedtheir position thanks to container ship financing transactions. Despiteheightened competition, the aircraft financing teams substantiallyexpanded their Latin American activity and boosted transaction volumeswith operational lessors.From an already strong business base, the highly experienced exportfinancing teams amply confirmed their global leadership.
