Inspec.x UV-VIS seriesPremium Machine Vision Lenses forUV Applications12Optical systems in the UV spectral range below400nm are used in many different fields ofapplication: the optical detection of electricdischarges (solar blind spectroscopy); crime-sceneinvestigation; or general spectroscopic imaging.More recently, other applications have begun toaccess the UV imaging, for example specializedmachine vision, inspection and laser materialprocessing. With the tendency toward ever-shrinking featuresizes in micro-chip technology, critical points ofinterest can only be resolved under shorter andshorter UV wavelengths. In order to meet this growing arena of imaging,Qioptiq employs unique and highly specialized UVmanufacturing techniques in offering the Inspec.xUV-Vis series lenses.Challenges of the UV Design andProduction Process:Optical systems acquire their high imagingperformance mainly by a sophisticated combinationof optical glasses with different diffraction anddispersion. In contrast to the visible region there areonly a few crystal glasses available for the opticaldesigner to develop a UV system.│ FeaturesFor applications down to 240nmDesigned for high-resolution megapixel camerasMinimized focal shift over the completewavelength rangePrecision manual focus with durable, full metalconstructionFurthermore the outstanding resolution requirementsfor such systems demand precise mountingtechnologies as typically accepted tolerances for thesingle lens elements are below 1μm. This is onlypossible by using precision turning techniques for thelens production. Qioptiq employs a two-phasemeasurement process, combining classicalinterferometry with the Hartmann Shack method, toensure the utmost quality in our ultra-precise UVassemblies

The optimum working aperture isbetween f/5.6 and f/8. This is worth mentioningbecause the effective aperture of a lens focused for ascale of about 1:1 is approximately two f-stopssmaller than the nominal aperture and thereforestopping down to smaller apertures than nominal f/8would result in visible blur because of diffraction. Allfour models are fitted with clickstop aperture rings.

Telecentric Lenses TL seriesObjectives for 2D and 3D MeasurementApplications28Metrology, quality inspection and image analysisare the most important applications for telecentricmeasuring lenses. The advantage of using atelecentric lens is that it produces an image overa spatial depth. Within its telecentric range, theimaging scale remains constant so that correct imagedimensions can be measured from three dimensionalobjects for software controlled processing.Qioptiq has developed telecentric lenses each for 1/2“and 2/3“ CCD cameras with different object areadiameters. They are characterized by extremesharpness, freedom from distortion and a highaperture (NA=0.1). MachVis SoftwareLens Selection SoftwareMachVis software is designed to help you find theright lens for your machine vision application. Startingwith 4 simple parameters:38• Object size• Working distance• Sensor size• Camera mountMachVis calculates the necessary optical parametersand then, from the extensive Qioptiq lens catalogue, selects all suitable lenses that meet the specifications.Example datasheets with drawing and MTF curvesIf mechanical accessories (e.g. focussing unit, extension tubes etc.) are needed, MachVis will createa printable, itemised list of the required parts.MachVis also generates a schematic drawing of thelens and accessories in the order of assembly.Specifications, along with your own project notes, may be saved to disk for later recall. Datasheets (PDF)for each lens and mechanical part are integrated withMachVis and may be viewed for a more detailedanalysis. To facilitate the mechanical design of your system asmuch as possible MachVis offers you the directdownload of 3D data in step or parasolid format ofall lenses and accessories.Printout of the selected system│ Download your free copy today:http://www.qioptiq.com/machvisLens overview dialog

Customized SolutionsProviding optical solutions for any machine visionapplication is not just sending quotations and waitingfor the order. There is so much more to discussand negotiate to find the optimum solution for agiven task. We emphasize on finding the optimumsolution together with the customer instead of justselling what could be good enough.Qioptiq serves the whole range of Machine Visionapplications with either standard components orcustomer specific products.40These discussions are even more important when anapplication specific solution needs to be developed. Our team of highly experienced and competentoptical and mechanical designers, project managersand sales managers will dive into your applicationand discuss every aspect of your request. Only after afull specification is set up that both sides understandand approve the development is startedMany customers involve us in the development oftheir products at a very early stage. Our widely experienceddevelopment teams can analyze the taskand indicate how optical systems can contribute tothe solution. This dialog with the customer along with thoroughknowledge of the machine vision market and thelatest optical technologies act as driving forces forthe steady growth of our portfolio of standardproducts on the one hand and enable us to find thebest possible solution for application specific solutionson the other hand.Optical design has been our core competency forover 100 years. Our optical designers use bothcommercial software and in-house programs that wehave developed to meet special requirements. All theexperience with tolerances of optical systems andmanufacturing of optical components that wasgained over many decades finds its way into our inhousesoftware and allows us to precisely simulatemanufacturing tolerances of the complete product. With these results we can predict system performancealready before we start to manufactureprototypes.

The biggest step in the development of a newproduct is the conversion from design to the actualworking model. Our engineering staff works closelywith our production department to enable this tohappen quickly and accurately. Rapid prototyping isavailable if needed by our customers.Qioptiq has mastered the transfer of themanufacturing from prototype quantities to massproduction. The entire development and productionprocess at Qioptiq is embedded in a comprehensivequality management system that is ISO 9001 certified.Additionally, our production organization is basedupon the flexibility of our workers and our groupprocesses. We use interdisciplinary, semi-autonomous workgroups, responsible for all aspects of production, from purchasing raw materials to planning andproduction of the finished product.41

Customized SolutionsA customized solution is not necessarily a completelynew lens or optical system. In many cases a slightmodification of a standard product is enough toenable new solutions. These modifications can be:42• A different camera mount• Fixed aperture instead of an iris aperture• A different coating – even filter functions can beintegrated into the lens• Special mounting flanges• Motorization of focus and or iris aperture• Many moreWe have done hundreds of these modifications overthe past decades and we are happy to talk with youabout your needs. The following list mentions a few example projectswe have done in the past. This list is not at all comprehensiveand gives only a little overview aboutwhat is possible and can be done.• Diffraction-limited lens with floating element for alarge magnification range. Application: FPDInspection• Apochromatically corrected lens for the completevisible range with minimum lateral and longitudinalchromatic aberrations. Application: solarcell inspection• Special SWIR coating for a Rodagon lens.Application: Artwork inspection• Complete 3CCD camera including prismalignment. Application: cotton inspection• Customized version of an inspec.x L lens for acertain magnification range. Application:FPD inspection• Matched lens for a prism based 3CCD camera.Application: diverse
