Annual report 2011 71Innovative approaches for improvement of delivered Quality of Service in the NextGeneration Networks (NGN) (VEGA, 1/0243/10)Project leader: I. KotuliakMembers UPSS:Supported by:P. Trúchly, J. Flochová. M. Kotočová, T. Kováčik, I. GrellnethScientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education of Slovak Republicand the Slovak Academy of SciencesDuration: January 2010 – December 2011Description:Converged networks, deploying unified platform for the multimediaand data transmission, are the main trends for telecommunication operators. The soft switch architecture and distributed architecture of IPMultimedia Subsystem (IMS) are main implementations of such networksbeing implemented currently. This project is oriented into twoparts related to general implementation of the converged network: (i)access layer of the network based on optimization of performance parameterswhich influence the service quality perception by end parties. The project research is aimed at wireless and metropolitan optical environments.(ii) service quality provision in the IP/MPLS network. Inthis part, the project deals with queue management and optimization, fast recovery from network failure as well as fast convergence of routingprotocols. Other research is based on latest trends in area of FutureGeneration Internet. Third part related to IMS addresses the investigationof statistical properties of the traffic, which can influence thewhole system output.Support of Building a Center of Exellence for Smart Technologies, Systems, andServices (ITMS 26240120005)Project leader: T.
