Transfer of Sorghum & Millet Production,Processing & Marketing Technologies Program in Mali$5,250,000 USAID10/1/07 – 9/30/12John Yohe, with support from the U.S. Agency for InternationalDevelopment, is directing this project designed to improvesorghum and millet farmers’ productivity and incomes intargeted areas of Mali by moving sorghum and millet productiontechnologies onto farmers’ fields, linking farmers’ organizationsto food and feed processors, and commercializing processingtechnologies. Ultimately, the project’s goal is to improve the supplychain from the farm level to the consumer.Interdisciplinary TeamInfrastructure for the Enhancement of SystemsBiology Research & Development at UNL$4,329,877 NSF7/1/07 – 7/31/10This grant supports multi-campus collaborative research betweenbiologists and engineers for creating a strategic researchniche in epigenetics – the study of heritable changes in genefunctions not associated with changes in DNA sequence. Muchof what comprises the complexity of multi-cellular organisms isprogrammed within the network of interacting molecules – protein,RNA and DNA – known collectively as chromatin. Engineersare creating nano-devices for delivering molecules into cells forbetter understanding the role of chromatin in cell function and itsresponse to the environment.22AWARDS OF $3 MILLION OR MORE
