Eleven institutions participated, offering a totalof 72 courses and making 738 offers. There were 1326 applicants,of whom 629 were <strong>2010</strong> applicants re-applying and 697 were newapplicants in <strong>2011</strong>. Mid-year applications in <strong>2011</strong> increased by thirtyfour per cent and new applicants increased by forty two per cent.Behind <strong>the</strong> scenesApplication assessmentWhen <strong>VTAC</strong> processes an application, <strong>the</strong> information submittedis automatically checked against <strong>the</strong> information <strong>VTAC</strong> can accesselectronically (such as Year 12 records or university results).These checks are referred to as ‘tasks’. System-processed tasksinclude confirmation of student details and study claims. When <strong>the</strong>information does not exactly match, some form of manual checkor investigation is required by <strong>VTAC</strong> assessment staff to verify<strong>the</strong> information submitted. Examples of manual checks includeinvestigating mismatched names or dates for study claims, orassessing whe<strong>the</strong>r overseas qualifications meet Australian entrancerequirements according to National Office of Overseas SkillsRecognition (NOOSR) guidelines.Document processingWhile all applications are available online, applicants are ableto submit printed documentation to support <strong>the</strong>ir application.Processing printed documentation requires sorting and validatingdocuments sent to <strong>VTAC</strong>. Each item is date-stamped, grouped,scanned and verified. This information is circulated electronicallyto selection officers for consideration.<strong>VTAC</strong> Personal information (Pi) formsApplicants are also able to submit additional information tosupport <strong>the</strong>ir application using <strong>the</strong> <strong>VTAC</strong> Pi form which is availablethrough <strong>the</strong> online applicant portal: MyInfo. In <strong>the</strong> past year <strong>VTAC</strong>received and processed a number of printed <strong>VTAC</strong> Pi forms.
