egistration <strong>of</strong> the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle shall be:(1) kept at all times in the vehicle; <strong>an</strong>d(2) made available <strong>for</strong> inspection upon the dem<strong>an</strong>d <strong>of</strong> a law en<strong>for</strong>cement <strong>of</strong>ficer.Notwithst<strong>an</strong>ding IC 9-18-2-21, this subsection is not satisfied by keeping a reproduction <strong>of</strong> the certificate<strong>of</strong> registration in the vehicle or making a reproduction <strong>of</strong> the certificate <strong>of</strong> registration available <strong>for</strong>inspection.(e) The fee to register <strong>an</strong>d display <strong>an</strong> authentic license plate from the model year <strong>of</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>tique motorvehicle is as provided in IC 9-29-5-32.5.As added by P.L.79-2006, SEC.6. (a) An application <strong>for</strong> the registration <strong>of</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle under this chapter must beaccomp<strong>an</strong>ied by a certificate that indicates that the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle has:(1) been inspected <strong>for</strong> general safety; <strong>an</strong>d(2) been found to be in a mech<strong>an</strong>ical condition that the vehicle c<strong>an</strong> be operated safely on thehighways.(b) The state police department shall make the inspection <strong>an</strong>d issue the certificate under this section.As added by P.L.2-1991, SEC.6.IC 9-18-12-4<strong>Vehicle</strong>s altered after registration; nonoriginal motor scooter equipment not requiredSec. 4. (a) If a person who registers <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle under this chapter makes subst<strong>an</strong>tialalterations or ch<strong>an</strong>ges to the vehicle after the date <strong>of</strong> the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle's registration, theregistr<strong>an</strong>t shall have the vehicle reinspected by the state police department.(b) If the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle is not found to be in a mech<strong>an</strong>ical condition that guar<strong>an</strong>tees thevehicle's safe operation upon the highways, the mech<strong>an</strong>ical condition shall be reported to the bureau. Thebureau shall do the following:(1) Immediately c<strong>an</strong>cel the registration <strong>of</strong> the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle.(2) Notify the person who registered the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle <strong>of</strong> the c<strong>an</strong>cellation.(c) A motor scooter registered under this chapter is not required to have equipment that was notoriginal on the motor scooter.As added by P.L.2-1991, SEC.6.IC 9-18-12-5Tr<strong>an</strong>sfers <strong>of</strong> ownershipSec. 5. (a) Upon the tr<strong>an</strong>sfer <strong>of</strong> ownership <strong>of</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle registered under this chapter:(1) the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle's registration is void; <strong>an</strong>d(2) the license plates shall be removed from the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle by the person who ownsthe <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle.(b) A person who is not the original registr<strong>an</strong>t <strong>of</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle may not possess thelicense plates <strong>for</strong> the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle.(c) A person who originally owns the license plates <strong>for</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle may, <strong>for</strong> theremainder <strong>of</strong> the year in which the ownership <strong>of</strong> the vehicle is tr<strong>an</strong>sferred, register <strong>an</strong>other <strong>an</strong>tique motorvehicle under the same registration.(d) This subsection does not apply to <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle acquired by a convey<strong>an</strong>ce subject toIC 9-17-3-9. Upon the tr<strong>an</strong>sfer <strong>an</strong>d sale <strong>of</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle registered under this chapter, theperson who acquires ownership <strong>of</strong> the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle shall, not more th<strong>an</strong> thirty-one (31) daysafter the date <strong>of</strong> acquiring ownership or be<strong>for</strong>e using the motor vehicle upon the highways, make <strong>an</strong>application with the bureau <strong>for</strong> registration <strong>of</strong> the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle under this chapter.(e) This subsection applies only to <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle acquired by a convey<strong>an</strong>ce subject toIC 9-17-3-9. Upon the tr<strong>an</strong>sfer <strong>an</strong>d sale <strong>of</strong> <strong>an</strong> <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle registered under this chapter, theperson who acquires ownership <strong>of</strong> the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle shall, not more th<strong>an</strong> sixty (60) days afterthe date <strong>of</strong> acquiring ownership or be<strong>for</strong>e using the motor vehicle upon the highways, make <strong>an</strong> applicationwith the bureau <strong>for</strong> registration <strong>of</strong> the <strong>an</strong>tique motor vehicle under this chapter.As added by P.L.2-1991, SEC.6.
