P A G E 2 Dollars and $ense From the office of your Treasurer… Mrs. Tina Bennett On May 16, 2011, at the regular Board of Education meeting, the Board recognized and honored those who will be retiring from the Crestview Local Schools. Those retiring are: Mrs. Debbie Reidy, 16 Years Mrs. Sharon Glenn, 21 Years Mrs. Zelma Hart, 27 Years Mr. Dean Glenn, 40 years We would like to thank these five individuals for their dedication and service to the students, parents, and staff of Crestview Local Schools. All will be missed and are wished the very best in their retirements. T H E C R E S T V I E W 50 Years Ago: On April 4, 1961, at a meeting of the Union Board of Education, members of the Savannah-Clear Creek -Butler School Board were present and discussed the consolidation of the two school districts citing that: ―Under present circumstances, we believe the uniting of these two districts will provide ample student enrollment and adequate valuation for an improved school program which will meet the needs of our children and our community.‖ ―We, as Board members of these districts agree on the following: 1. We recommend that a consolidation be made and that the Richland County Board appoint two members from the Savannah-Clear Creek-Butler District and three members from the Union Local District. 2. Should it become necessary to transfer Savannah to Union, then two Union Board members will immediately resign, one whose term expires Dec. 31, 1961, and one whose term expires Dec. 31, 1963; and two citizens from the Savannah District will be legally appointed to fill these vacancies. 3. Upon the passing of Bond issue for a new high school, a location for such school shall be chosen near the geographical center of the entire new district, to provide for the convenience of the people and efficient operation of the school. 4. We agree to hold public meetings at each of our schools to explain our program and to give an opportunity for discussion and any questions which you may have in mind.‖ The resolution was agreed to by the Savannah-Clear Creek-Butler Board of Education: Merle Eichelberger, Victor Fulk, Bernard Wolf, Raymond Lemmuel, and Howard B. Clever -- Certified by John Gibson, Clerk And the Union Local Board of Education: Eunice Wolfe, John W. Groff, Lee Oswalt, Foster Laribee, and Ernest Poth, Jr. -- Certified by H.S. Pittenger, Clerk Results of the vote in June 1961 on the consolidation of Union and Savannah-Clear Creek-Butler School Districts were: Yes – 471; No – 123. The consolidation passed. The official transfer of property and cash of $193,871.72 from Savannah-Clear Creek-Butler Board of Education to the Union Board of Education became effective at 12:00 midnight on June 30, 1961, thus forming what would soon become the Crestview Local School District. There is certainly more to this story, and we hope you will join us as we celebrate the 50 th anniversary of the consolidation during the 2011-12 school year. We will be having a little different format for Open House as we will hold it in conjunction with a fall sports night. On August 18th we will have a Meet-The-Team night that will recognize our fall athletes starting at 6:00 PM and then immediately afterwards our high school Open House will follow. We will be handing out necessary forms, schedules and agendas on that night. Please come and support our athletes and our students as we kick-off the school year! As we head into the summer and school shopping begins, please be mindful when out shopping that students are not permitted to wear jeans with holes in accordance with our dress code.
