Dollars and $ense From the office of your Treasurer… Mrs. Tina Bennett
On May 16, 2011, at the regular Board of Education meeting, the Board recognized and
honored those who will be retiring from the Crestview Local Schools. Those retiring are:
Mrs. Debbie Reidy, 16 Years
Mrs. Sharon Glenn, 21 Years
Mrs. Zelma Hart, 27 Years
Mr. Dean Glenn, 40 years
We would like to thank these five individuals for their dedication and service to the students, parents, and staff
of Crestview Local Schools. All will be missed and are wished the very best in their retirements.
T H E C R E S T V I E W
50 Years Ago:
On April 4, 1961, at a meeting of the Union Board of Education, members of the Savannah-Clear Creek
-Butler School Board were present and discussed the consolidation of the two school districts citing
that:
―Under present circumstances, we believe the uniting of these two districts will provide ample student enrollment and
adequate valuation for an improved school program which will meet the needs of our children and our community.‖
―We, as Board members of these districts agree on the following:
1. We recommend that a consolidation be made and that the Richland County Board appoint two members from the
Savannah-Clear Creek-Butler District and three members from the Union Local District.
2. Should it become necessary to transfer Savannah to Union, then two Union Board members will immediately
resign, one whose term expires Dec. 31, 1961, and one whose term expires Dec. 31, 1963; and two citizens from
the Savannah District will be legally appointed to fill these vacancies.
3. Upon the passing of Bond issue for a new high school, a location for such school shall be chosen near the
geographical center of the entire new district, to provide for the convenience of the people and efficient operation
of the school.
4. We agree to hold public meetings at each of our schools to explain our program and to give an opportunity for discussion
and any questions which you may have in mind.‖
The resolution was agreed to by the Savannah-Clear Creek-Butler Board of Education:
Merle Eichelberger, Victor Fulk, Bernard Wolf, Raymond Lemmuel, and Howard B. Clever
-- Certified by John Gibson, Clerk
And the Union Local Board of Education:
Eunice Wolfe, John W. Groff, Lee Oswalt, Foster Laribee, and Ernest Poth, Jr.
-- Certified by H.S. Pittenger, Clerk
Results of the vote in June 1961 on the consolidation of Union and Savannah-Clear Creek-Butler School Districts were:
Yes – 471; No – 123. The consolidation passed.
The official transfer of property and cash of $193,871.72 from Savannah-Clear Creek-Butler Board of
Education to the Union Board of Education became effective at 12:00 midnight on June 30, 1961, thus
forming what would soon become the Crestview Local School District.
There is certainly more to this story, and we hope you will join us as we celebrate the 50 th anniversary of the consolidation
during the 2011-12 school year. If you have memorabilia to share for Crestview’s ―museum‖ in September, please
contact us at 419-895-1700, ext. 5000.

Crestview HS News ~ Mr. Scott Will, Principal
As we put the finishing touches on the 2010-2011 school year, we already have begun to look ahead to the fall.
We will be having a little different format for Open House as we will hold it in conjunction with a fall sports night.
On August 18th we will have a Meet-The-Team night that will recognize our fall athletes starting at 6:00 PM and
then immediately afterwards our high school Open House will follow. We will be handing out necessary forms,
schedules and agendas on that night. Please come and support our athletes and our students as we kick-off the
school year! As we head into the summer and school shopping begins, please be mindful when out shopping that
students are not permitted to wear jeans with holes in accordance with our dress code.
A Friendly Reminder for Parents
“Are You Up-to-Date on your Immunizations?”
FOR 2011-12 SCHOOL YEAR!
A reminder that students beginning 7 th grade in the fall of 2011 will be required to have a
Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccine before the start of the school year.
This is a new state of Ohio vaccine requirement. The vaccine contains protection against
pertussis, or whooping cough, a severe respiratory illness that causes violent rapid coughing that
can last for extended periods of time. It is spread by coughing and sneezing. Cases of whooping
cough mostly occur in school settings and nearly doubled in Ohio between 2008 and 2009.
An updated immunization record must be turned in to the middle school office by
August 24, 2011, in order for a student to be eligible to attend school. Any 7 th grade student who
does not have proof of this immunization by September 13, 2011, will be excluded from school
until we have an updated immunization record. For special exemptions please refer to ORC
3313.671.
The summer months will provide ample time for parents to get their children’s immunizations
up-to-date. We encourage you to contact your personal physician, the Ashland County
Health Department (419-282-4317) or the Mansfield-Ontario-Richland County Health Department
(419-774-4540) to set up an appointment or get the times of clinic hours.
The Crestview Middle School office will be open Monday through Friday until June 24,
2011 and re-open on August 1, 2011. Also, you may drop off your child’s updated immunization
Community & General Information
CRESTVIEW LOCAL SCHOOLS HONORED
Crestview Local Schools has been named one of the most cost-effective school
―The taxpayers and residents of this community should be proud that their district
takes seriously the best use of resources to benefit children,‖ said Andrew Benson,
The recognition Crestview received stems from a report issued by the organiza-
tion this year as part of a study of K to 12 education called Ohio Smart Schools. Of
the more than 600 districts in the state, the study found Crestview was one of four
districts to be among the most efficient in both school-level administration and central
–office administration. Treasurer Tina Bennett said the district was pleasantly
surprised by the recognition. ―We’re always looking for ways to cut costs,
Bennett said. ―Reductions in non-instructional areas we feel are preferable to areas
that are going to affect students in the classroom.‖ - Written by Bryan Bullock,
is your student’s 6-digit ID number,
click on the EZpay link on the
using EZpay, you can still set up an
EZpay account to view your student’s
lunch history. You can obtain your
student’s 6-digit ID number by contacting
the Food Service department at
